Ice-cold water runnin' through my veins
Got a bad taste in my mouth from bitter tears
Heart so sad 'cause love's gone bad
I see a rainbow all in black
Must be a sign that you ain't comin' back
Wake up at night callin' your name
I've been this way since you've been gone
Without your love I can't go on
Look in the mirror, what do I see?
A cryin' face, kinda looks like me
Now where's the love you promised me?
Where's he tenderness to comfort me?
Everytime some love I choose
I seem to always be the one to lose
Bad taste in my mouth from bitter tears
Heart fells sad 'cause love's gone bad
Love's gone bad, heart fells bad
Black crows flying up above
It's a sign that I live life without love
signs on the man, signs on the sea
signs everywhere I said I'm destined to be
And this world where nothing's right
Since you've been gone I can't sleep at night
You said you'd be true to me
Instead you made a fool out of me
Heart feels sad, love's gone bad
The lyrics of Chris Clark's song "Love" express the heartache and pain of a failed relationship. The opening line, "Ah, I feel a pounding in my brain," sets the tone for the emotional turmoil that the singer is experiencing. The use of sensory details, such as "ice-cold water runnin' through my veins" and "bad taste in my mouth from bitter tears," convey the physical and emotional impact of heartbreak.

The line "I've been this way since you've been gone" emphasizes the depth of his despair.
In the middle of the song, the singer questions where the love went wrong, expressing his frustration with always being the one to lose in love. The last verse concludes with the imagery of black crows flying above, symbolizing the singer's bleak and lonely existence without love.

Classic Motown ... sung with soul ... one of my favorites ... came up in this era, so many hits flowing that this one fell threw the cracks ... it should have been more popular than it was. I got this 45 (bought it much later on internet ... when I had the money as an adult). One of my favorites ... love that last chord at the end.

Great song. Glad I discovered it 52 years after its release.

Great song! Being a huge garage and psych fan of some of some 26 years, I really appreciate The Underdogs cover version of this from '67...but Chris Clark's original interpretation can't be beat. Of course, it does help to have the legendary funk brothers playing on Chris's version!
