Everything about the whole NYADA storyline infuriated me from start to finish. First of all, Rachel and Kurt who supposedly have dreams of stardom from infancy, don’t even start thinking about college or start plotting their education/career moves until the start of season 3. Kurt gives this brilliant audition that he didn’t think he was capable of, and Rachel majorly chokes, both of which are honestly great story beats in and of themselves. But the writers clearly had no idea how they were going to move forward with this.

It could have been so interesting seeing someone like Rachel taken down a peg and having to wait a semester or two, staying in Lima and performing in community theater or something since she effectively had no back up plan if NYADA fell through. It would have been so interesting seeing Kurt navigate the big city alone and without his support system in his boyfriend/family. But no.

Also, the way everything ended up in season 4 was such utter bs. I think Carmen tells Kurt that he didn’t get in despite having a great audition because he wasn’t “authentic” or something? The thing is, auditions are really fucking complicated, more complicated than anything we see in the show. Maybe it would have been interesting if they just didn’t give a reason for Kurt being rejected. Maybe because his application wasn’t in order, or his GPA wasn’t great, or maybe too many people with his similar voice type applied and they didn’t have room that year. Because most of the time, that’s just how show biz works and it’s just insane to try and pin it down to specifics. But no. And I honestly don’t think the writers even had it thought out about why he wasn’t accepted. And it REALLY shows in how half baked seasons 4-5 are.

And don’t get me started on how Rachel skyrockets through the ranks of NYADA despite being a pretty shitty student and lands a leading Broadway role despite having no professional experience and being a freshman in college.

DLDR: Glee majorly shits on everyone who goes to school for/works in performance.

I will suspend disbelief for every. single. detail. of this show (because it just isn't fun otherwise) EXCEPT the NYADA admissions storyline- infuriated is a great word (sorry I'm about to rant on ur year old comment bc my friends don't care and I need to express these feelings lolll)

Rachel is the kind of girl who would apply to 20+ prestigious private colleges that all have supplemental essays including every Ivy League and says her safety schools are UC Berkeley and NYU. She's the kind of girl who would make her dads take her on college tours across the country starting in 8th grade (she literally had a binder with a 5 year plan or something so you're really telling me she didn't thoroughly research multiple schools??) If she's dead set on performing arts school,,, there are more schools than NYADA? I mean NYADA isn't real so are we supposed to think that in the Glee-universe the only two performing arts schools that exist are NYADA and Julliard without a musical theatre department?

What angered me more than the who gets in and who doesn't aspect is the NYADA or nothing attitude????? Rachel should've been turned away after stalking Carmen and have to go to her third or fourth choice school (which can still be in NYC,,,,) to teach her that she can't get exactly what she wants every time especially in show business. The stakes were high enough to create sufficient drama without having to do NYADA or nothing.

(talking about when s3 was done but before s4) It was just so frustrating as a viewer to watch Rachel be awful for 3 seasons and get exactly what she wants in the end. I mean Kurt was the breakout favorite character since season 1 I think a lot of viewers (me especially) would have LOVED for him to finally come out on top instead of Rachel,,,, ALSO there's a girl at pretty much every competition (and dozens at nationals) who sound like Rachel but Kurt is a countertenor?????????? I mean how many of those with such a lovable personality do you come across?? homophobia explains his lack of solos in high school but to not be a favorite for art school admissions??? such BS.

Anyway, we can all agree that this is an amazing and enjoyable performance- always puts a smile on my face :')

Coming home used to feel so good
I'm a stranger now in my neighborhood
I've seen the world at a faster place
And I'm coming now from a different place
Though I may look the same way to you
Underneath there is somebody new
I am not the boy next door
I don't belong like I did before
Nothing ever seems like it used to be
You can have your dreams but you can't have me
Oh, I can't come back there anymore
'Cause I am not the boy next door
You've been saving those souvenirs
Faded photographs from our foolish years
We made plans but they're wearing thin
And they don't work out 'cause I don't fit it
And those memories'll just weigh you down
'Cause I got no place to keep 'em uptown
I am not the boy next door
I don't belong like I did before
Nothing ever seems like it used to be
You can have your dreams but you can't have me
Oh, I can't go back there anymore
'Cause I am not the boy next door
I'm not sorry for just being me
But if you look past the past you can see
That I am not
Nothing ever seems like it used to be
You can have your dreams, oh but you can't have me
I can't go back there anymore
'Cause I am not (you are not), I am not (you are not), I am not
The boy next door

There is no way that an actual kid wouldn't get in if they did that as an audition. It's one of the best performances on the whole show.

Agreed. That last note was insane, and UNLIKE HJ (whom I like, but god he sounded terrible as Peter Allen. Chris actually sings the melody. HE sounds (and looks) fabulous.
