Chris joined the "Snowflakes", a vocal group of Claude Thornhill's band, and moved on to become Stan Kenton's lead singer. She recorded for Bethlehem records originally and then began a long association with Atlantic records. Her trademark songs are well known to most people familiar with jazz of the 50s and 60s; among them are "Lullaby of Birdland" and "All about Ronnie."

What Is There to Say
Chris Connor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and what is there to do
The dream I've been seeking
has practically speaking come true
What is there to say
and how will I pull through
I knew in a moment
You are so lovable
So livable
Your beauty is quite unforgivable
You're made to marvel at
and words to that effect
So what is there to say
and what is there to do
My heart's in a deadlock
I'd even face wedlock with you
You are so lovable
So livable
Your beauty is quite unforgivable
You're made to marvel at
and words to that effect
So what is there to say
and what is there to do
my heart's in a deadlock
I'd even face wedlock with you
The song "What Is There to Say" by Chris Connor is about the overwhelming feeling of contentment when finding true love. The opening lines of the song ask what is there to say and do, because the dream the singer has been seeking has come true. The dream, in this case, is finding a romantic partner who brings contentment and wholeness.
The lyrics go on to describe the singer's affection for their partner, describing them as lovable and livable, and their beauty as unforgivable. The singer talks about being in a state of awe at their partner and not knowing what else to say or do. The final line expresses the depth of their commitment, saying they would even face wedlock with their partner.
Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a deep, all-consuming love that leaves the singer feeling speechless and enamored.

I came upon Chris in 2000, while searching the Jazz CD section of the store. Had never heard of her,but she quickly rose to the top of my list. With the introduction from a couple of members on the Songbirds Yahoo group, I was able to actually correspond with Chris, receiving a couple of Xmas cards and autographed CDs. I've since grown a really good collection of her recordings, photos, magazine write-ups and articles, etc.
