Garneau, a native of Boston, lived with his family in Paris during grade school, and later New Jersey before moving to New York City. Garneau discovered a love of music at a young age while learning to play piano. After high school, Garneau briefly attended Berklee Music School in Boston, but left after completing one term and moved to Brooklyn, NY. There he began writing music and playing live shows at small venues in the East Village and Lower East Side of Manhattan, including CBGB's Gallery and "The Living Room".
Garneau eventually signed with Absolutely Kosher Records, an Emeryville, California-based record label. He was brought to the label by Jamie Stewart and Caralee McElroy of Xiu Xiu. Garneau released his debut album Music for Tourists in October 2006 and on iTunes in January 2007. His second project, an EP titled "C-Sides", was released in December 2007. Garneau's second full-length album, titled "El Radio," was released in July 2009.

I saw your good old friend
He walked right passed
I'll never ask
I'll never ask again
I saw the sea come in
I saw your good old friend
I'll never ask
I'll never ask again
I love the way you dance
We can work well out
Don't you miss your chance
The pain will all grow out
I heard you're good old word
I heard the things you said
They shuffled in
I will be the same I'll be the same in red
I heard you're good old word
And I also heard the things you said
They shuffled in
I will be the same I'll be the same
Goodnight
I love the way you dance
We can work well out
Don't you miss your chance
The pain will all grow out
I didn't go to see the city
I went to see it around you
We can laugh in hell together
The devil will find you to
Nose to nose
Eyes on the clouds
This is what I said
We never never end
Nose to nose
Eyes on the clouds
This is what I said
We never never end
I saw the sea come in
I saw your good old friend
He walked right passed
I'll never ask, I'll never ask again
The lyrics to Chris Garneau's song Relief are quite cryptic, but they evoke a feeling of longing and loss. The opening lines "I saw the sea come in, I saw your good old friend, he walked right past, I'll never ask, I'll never ask again" indicate a sense of missed opportunity, perhaps a missed connection with someone whom the singer cares about deeply. There is a sense of regret in the repetition of "I'll never ask again," as if the singer knows that they should have done something differently, but it's too late now.
The chorus, "I love the way you dance, we can work well out, don't you miss your chance, the pain will all grow out," further reinforces the theme of missed opportunity and regret. The singer seems to be telling someone that they admire them and that they could have a great future together, but it seems the other person has already missed their chance. The phrase "the pain will all grow out" suggests that the singer believes that whatever hurt or disappointment has occurred will eventually heal.
The final lines of the song express a sense of deep connection and a belief that the bond between the singer and the person they care about will never be broken. "Nose to nose, eyes on the clouds, this is what I said, we never never end" suggests that the singer has shared a moment of intimacy with this person, and that they feel a deep connection that will never go away.
