And now, the end is near
The end of my life is approaching

And so I face the final curtain
I am ready to confront death with acceptance

My friend, I'll say it clear
I want you to understand my perspective

I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I am confident about my life and its choices

I've lived a life that's full
I have experienced a rich and fulfilling life

I've traveled each and every highway
I have explored many different paths in my life

But more, much more than this
However, there is something that stands out above all else

I did it my way
I lived my life according to my own values and desires

Regrets, I've had a few
There are some things I regret, but they are few in number

But then again, too few to mention
They are not worth dwelling on or discussing

I did what I had to do
I made difficult decisions when necessary

And saw it through without exemption
I carried out those decisions without exception or excuses

I planned each charted course
I mapped out my path forward in life

Each careful step along the byway
I took each decision as it came and approached it with care

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
There were undoubtedly occasions when you were aware

When I bit off more than I could chew
When I took on more than I could handle

But through it all, when there was doubt
But despite those challenges when I was uncertain

I ate it up and spit it out
I faced those challenges head-on and overcame them

I faced it all and I stood tall
I confronted everything in my path and remained strong throughout

And did it my way
I handled everything in my life according to my own choices and values

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I have experienced a variety of emotions and connected with others

I've had my fill my share of losing
I have experienced defeat and disappointment, as well

And now, as tears subside
And now, as I approach the end of my life and reflect on it

I find it all so amusing
I find it all somewhat comical and lighthearted

To think I did all that
When I consider all that I've accomplished and experienced

And may I say - not in a shy way
And let me assert myself confidently when I say

No, oh no not me
That I am a unique individual who has lived a singular life

I did it my way
I lived my life according to my own choices and values

For what is a man, what has he got
What value does a person have in this world?

If not himself, then he has naught
If not his own authentic self, then he has nothing

To say the things he truly feels
To communicate what he genuinely believes

And not the words of one who kneels
Rather than parroting someone else's ideas or values

The record shows I took the blows
The evidence of my life reflects that I faced many challenges

And did it my way
And despite those obstacles, I handled everything according to my own choices and values
