Cry Me A River
Chris Jamison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You were my sun
You were my earth
But you didn't know all the ways I loved you, no
So you took a chance
And made other plans
But I bet you didn't think that they would come crashing down, no

You don't have to say, what you did,
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it

You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
To cry, cry me a river
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
Cry me a river, yea yea

Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)

You don't have to say, what you did,
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it

Cry me a river
Cry me a river
Cry me a river, yea yea

Cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river-er
(Baby go on and just)
Cry me a river
(You can go on and just)
Cry me a river

(Cry me, cry me)
Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)

Cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)

Overall Meaning

Chris Jamison's "Cry Me a River" is a song about a failed relationship that is still raw with heartbreak. The opening lines show just how much the relationship meant to him as he compares his former lover to the sun and earth. However, despite all the love he had for her, Jamison claims that she didn't know all the ways he loved her. When she left him, he suffered severe consequences. She made other plans, and he believes that she never thought they would come crashing down. The chorus of the song shows that Jamison is well aware of the actions taken by his ex-lover. She cheated on him with another man, and he found out about it from him.

The second verse of the song shows a plea from the ex-lover, telling Jamison that she now needs him but it is too late for her. He is convinced that she must have him confused with another guy, and her bridges have been burned, leaving her with no chance. Jamison is almost like a child who has been wronged, telling his ex-lover that it is now her turn to cry.

In conclusion, the lyrics to Chris Jamison's "Cry Me a River" tell a tale of broken trust, heartbreak, and emotional pain. Despite the plea from the ex-girlfriend, it is clear that there is no way back for what they once had.
