Something in your eyes I see
Soon begins bewitching me
It's that old devil moon
That you stole from the skies
It's that old devil moon in your eyes
You and you glance make this romance
Stars in the night
Blazing their light
Can't hold a candle
To your razzle-dazzle
You've got me flyin' high and wide
On a magic carpet ride
Full of butterflies inside
Wanna cry, wanna croon
Wanna laugh like a loon
It's that old devil moon in your eyes
Just when I think
I'm free as a dove
Old devil moon
Deep in your eyes
Blinds me with love
The song "Old Devil Moon" by Chris McNulty is a classic jazz tune characterized by its upbeat melody and lyrics about falling in love. The song begins with the singer looking into the eyes of their lover and being captivated by something they see, which they later attribute to the "old devil moon." This phrase is likely a metaphor for the powerful and mesmerizing feeling of falling in love, as if the moon has cast a spell over them. The singer compares this feeling to being on a magic carpet ride, full of excitement and anticipation.
As the song progresses, the singer continues to be enthralled by their lover's gaze, even describing it as "too hot to handle." The stars in the sky pale in comparison to their razzle-dazzle, meaning that their lover's charm easily outshines anything else in their life. The singer expresses their desire to cry, croon, and laugh like a "loon" all because of the old devil moon in their lover's eyes. The song ends with the admission that the singer is blinded by love and unable to escape from the spell that their lover has cast over them.
Overall, "Old Devil Moon" is a lively and romantic song that captures the excitement of falling in love and being swept away by a powerful attraction.
