In one way, it's a shame he died. For the purpose of research, and learning about how these monsters are created, Dahmer was a fantastic resource for behaviorists and psychologists. His ability to analyze his own insanity is very unusual, only being otherwise seen in Ed Kemper. Hearing him explain his reasons for his actions is a fascinating look inside his brain. We could have learned a lot from studying him.

Worked for a major printing company in my early 20's and we printed a forensics text book with pictures from most of his victims they found. It was by far the most gruesome and disturbing images I've ever seen. The way he had positioned the dead bodies and the mutilation he preformed on these men was beyond comprehension.

If you want to prevent your child from becoming this, make sure you listen to them. Observe them. Watch them. Do not just get wound up in your own miseries. I think the family drama of the Lionels, especially his mother's psychotic behavior must have led him to this. He was abandoned over and over. The feeling of abandonment must have seeped into his psyche. Thanks to his introverted nature, he never expressed his emotions. He learnt to numb himself from any sort of pain. And soon he became numb to everything. He would distract himself with curiosity towards terrifying things, like mutilating or dissecting animals. Then as grew familiar with the fear and disgust, he begun having adrenaline rush in butchering them. Then soon it became a fun thing. People start enjoying liquor, drugs, occult and all the "wrong" things when they stop caring about themselves. Those wrong things become addictive. And people keep sinking deeper and deeper in the dark depths of insanity.

When he talks about feeling regret and sorrow, part of me doesn’t believe that at all… but then I realize he really isn’t capable of genuinely feeling those kinds of emotions the same way that most do. In his twisted mind he probably feels some sort of “sadness” towards his victims but, with the brutality of his murders and the way he describes why he did it, it’s very clear he has never or will never truly have a grasp on reality or feel any kind of empathy like a regular person. It’s also chilling to see that his motive behind all of this violence was intense loneliness… it makes you wonder that if his up bringing was different and if he had maybe received some sort of help, would it have turned out differently for him? Sad and disgusting, I can’t imagine what his victims went through.

His calm demeanor is part of how he was not only good at luring a lot of his victims, it was also how he swayed cops away the few times he almost got caught. He also had a huge drinking problem and would be numb during the killing portion of his victims, which could explain how he seemingly has empathy, yet murdered a lot of people

While Jeff was diagnosed as sane at his trial, he was still diagnosed with schizotypal disorder, as well as a general psychotic disorder that affects his perception of reality. Schizotypal disorder is defined by a general disconnect from society, on top of this, Jeff was diagnosed with sociopathy (or what is now known as anti-social personality disorder) which is defined by a lack of empathy for those around you. All of these different ailments, along with Jeff's experience with dead animals and road kill, played off each other to make the sick bastard. As a true crime fanatic, and now watching the Netflix series, I have to say that Jeffrey Dahmer, in this interview, was very articulate about explaining what he did while calm and composed. He was as honest as it gets for one of the most notorious serial killers in American history. He does not blame anyone and takes full responsibility for his actions. He is very intelligent (he has 140 or 145 IQ). It is a shame he chose this extremely depraved path instead of contributing positively to society. I do wish he were still alive, so that criminal psychologists, psychiatrists, scientists, and others in the criminal system (as well as true crime fanatics) could learn more about the nature of serial killers and how they come to commit such crimes.

His alcohol addiction interfered with his academic education. He spiraled out of control when he was left alone at age of 17. He was always interested in dead animals, even since a young age. His interest became an obsession, and during his formative years this obsession became sexually oriented. Because he was in his teens and sexually developing with his hobby of dissecting animals and killing them, the sexual nature and the obsession with death became intertwined. This dangerous cocktail together with mental illness (genetic and/or environmental) made him a serial killer / monster. He does admit that it was his choice and only his choice. He knew it was wrong because he did try to stop after the first killing and there was a few years hiatus until the next one, after which he could not stop.

In a sense I believe Jeffrey Dahmer was born this way. Some folks are molded by their environment to do certain acts of violence. But in a way he always had these type of feelings and social responses and he is aware of that and he takes credit for that. In rare cases some people are born with these responses. And it has occurred to me his mother was foaming out the mouth and was taking morphine and other drugs during her pregnancy, probably triggered some nuerological disorders as he was developing as a child.

I think he just had too much time alone as a kid and was probably neglected quite a bit. That first kill was most likely a huge rush and from that point he felt like he had power over anyone that he wanted to have power over. Similar to becoming addicted to a strong drug. I'm sure he probably thought about turning himself in after the first time but wasn't ready to kick the habit so he continued on like a junkie with a needle full of heroin.

The reason why Jeffrey Dahmer is so honest, is because he's relieved he got caught and now seeks positive light.

Dahmer was out of control and he knew that. He couldn't stop the crimes himself, he needed someone to stop him but that is the part that wouldn't happen, as he was obsessed with abandonment and keeping his victims. He'd give in to the lust, he wasn't disciplined enough to stop himself. This is the same reason he was kicked out of college and the army, he's giving in to his desires too much.

Dahmer is not mentally ill, no. He's taking pleasure in control and domination, it's his sexual fetish. The lack of parental presence and early abandonment resulted in him never being taught how to receive and transmit love and so his sick fetish never dulled down to something else.

Okay I have problem dealing with sugar, I eat a lot of it and I can't barely control myself but I feel bad about it afterwards, tho it felt good to do it at the moment it took place. Just because something is horrible doesn't mean you need to put the word "monster" and classify the case. People are really uncomfortable confronting the fact that he is human and that if our brain were wired like his we mightve end up like him. He did some evil stuff there's no doubt but, he's literally the only serial I've ever heard of actually say "I can't blame my upbringing, I can't blame my parents or society. I DID THIS, AND I'M RESPONSIBLE." EVERY other serial I've ever read about tried to shift the blame off themselves and onto others. I would say it hasn't changed too much. Just technology has allowed people to have more freedom for casual sex. In the 80's in particular for gay/bi men it was on the down-low. You were more discreet and the opportunity to even have sex came not as easily as straight people. Now with dating and social apps, gays can meet whoever they want and freely express what they are looking for. But there have been frightening situations where people would use the apps to set people up to be robbed, assaulted, or probably even murdered. Be it a hateful homophobe, or other gays who bend to more criminal elements.

I think one of the tragic things about this is, it seems he always knew something was wrong with him. I can see why he slipped through the cracks and no one was suppositions or even had a bad feeling nor fear around this man. When I see him, he’s the kind of person I wouldn’t even glance at twice. I’m already very suspicious of everyone, that’s just how I’ve been since I can remember. An abusive mother and manipulative father and having absolutely no positive male figure growing up.
Maybe if we were to be newbies or see each other often maybe it would be more obvious. That feeling of something being off about someone that just doesn’t let you put your guard down. That is the only thing that’s kept me alive through so much danger that has happened around me as a child to a adolescent. This is why to be as a parent it’s a big deal to teach my kids to not try to make adult comfortable. To always respect their boundaries. One example is how a lot of parents are forceful to exchange pleasantries with other adults. Kids can pick up on this things and if they do not feel comfortable talking to other strangers they shouldn’t have to nor any other adult that is close to the parents. This can be helpful to them as adults and being weary of people like Danmer.

I just pictured him graduating college, having a family of his own, and contributing to society in a powerful way. It's such a shame he didn't go that route. He truly left a horrible, horrible legacy. All his victims that went along with him could have ended up so differently. Like the hitchhiker he promised to bring to that concert. He simply could have taken him to that concert and even hang out with him there. They would have become good friends. Instead Jeff had other evil notions on his mind. It's so sad. I think the worst part is that this happened and the media interviewed him. Now, the family members of all of his victims have to endure his memory forever. The media put this monster's mind out for display and now it's here to stay. It can never be eraced. Jeffery Dahmer will be a legendary monster, remembered by all and his child victims will only be remembered by family. A quick death was too good for him.

I remember watching the media storm over this story back then. It was like the OJ coverage. It was everywhere. It was when I started to realize that the media is toxic. Dahmer’s life after he was arrested was just a long and intense post-nut clarity. Hopefully in his next life he will forego these addictions to cruelty that he has because of the experience he had in this life. But that is for him to decide. I hope while he was still here he seriously considered the evil of his actions and had a sincere change of mind inside himself and not just trying to save face in front of the cameras.

The sad part is that when evil people try to become good they have a whole of hard times coming towards them but it’s also justice playing itself out. I seriously have pity on these souls while despising their actions only because I know that what they put out is surely going to come back to them and sometimes will happen to them while they are an unassuming innocent person in their next life.

For serial killers, their victims are just objects that satisfy their obsessions through a repetitive pattern to often sexual satisfaction. Even if JD says that we should not incriminate another person of his deviances, we should find out how a human being can turn into a monster: trauma, drugs, withdrawal... My thoughts are with all the victims and my compassion for the families.

The fact that he seemed so easy going and calm while carrying on an intelligent conversation was in itself so misleading considering how quickly he turned into his evil alter ego which must have absolutely stunned and horrified his unsuspecting victims to say the least.

I believe that when a person has no feelings or empathy the most simple and raw human nature comes forward. There is no moral in the "way" to prevent people like serial killers to do these horrible things. Like I believe there must be something wrong in their brain.

Never had a strong stomach for serial killers cinema or documentaries. Ever since that Netflix show came out all I've been hearing lately is about this Dahmer guy and what kind of person he is and this video reminds me that monsters do exist.

Crazy how lust and sex play a huge part in serial killers thinking. He meant it when he said he’s glad it’s over. He was a drug addict and drug of choice was killing. To me, it’s some sort of demon in him. Somewhat like the BTK killer and many others. They want and try to stop but that urge (demon) arises again. I feel for the dad. That must be so hard to sit through. Yet he’s still there showing support. There’s a lot to be learned from this interview

Sometimes I wonder if psycopaths are really impossible to treat/cure or that psychology or psychiatric just didn’t figure a way out yet!! Maybe there is a way!! I remember that there was a child that was in the way of becoming one but thanks to psychology help she became a regular person. I don’t remember the name of the documentary though

Eh, most likely acting. Those are what led people thinking those serial killers are harmless and think they're normal people, which is one of the things that led to their deaths. They let their guard down and became comfortable with them. Psychopaths can appear harmless and sociable at first, and use their charm and deep talking to lure people.

It’s not scary. He killed 17 people, including children, raped, and dismembered them. He should feel more remorse. What’s scary is everyone’s sympathy for this guy. How do you know what his motivation is? What if he gets pleasure out of reliving these stories? He himself never understood why he wanted such things. It was wired into him and allowed to flourish through a neglecting environment. He had no good reasons not to indulge in his shameful behavior. I think even he was ashamed of himself, but the satisfaction, the chemical reward, was so great for him he couldn't say no.

When you hear about the way he grew up it's not surprising. He basicly was just ignored as a child by his own parents and was abandon in high school by his family. Never an excuse for these crimes but it's not hard to see why he turned out the way he did. There's millions out there that are living the same and someone somewhere is doing this same shit. You never know. Scary shit.

I actually doubt that many children have been abandoned by their parents, bullied relentlessly, been shown by their own Dad how to cut open roadkill, and found their mother attempting suicide. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of kids that probably fit into one of them categories, but Jeffrey went through hell as a kid and became the devil.

As you said, horrible childhood is not an excuse to commit a crime. There's probably something wrong or abnormal in his brain in the first place that makes him capable of doing that sort of thing.. because thousands of people have the same childhood as him, but not everyone turned into murderer..

Well. I knew him as he were mentioned in Katy Perrys song "Dark Horse" (She is a beast, I call her Karma. She eats your heart out, like Jeffrey Dahmer). Then I thought, man what a monster. I've watched the whole Netflix series. And the point where he is talking and admitting his crime to police officers really calmly and rational caught me. It was really fascinating. He also was kind of sympathetic, imagine you have no clue about what he did and you meet this guy.

I'm torn as to whether or not to believe when he expressed his remorse. Instinctually, I want to believe that he regrets his crimes, but at the same time, because of the depravity of the crimes, I have to wonder if he's pretending and only saying what he knows the public would want to hear. I think what makes serial killers scary/fascinating -- at least the more "composed" ones during interviews like Dahmer, Kemper, Bundy, etc. -- is that not only do they make us question whether it's all a façade or if there truly is a "human being" behind the monstrous acts, but they make us reflect on our own personal capabilities, especially after we realize that they are everyday people like us. "Am I capable of taking someone's life?" "Could I really do what they've done?" They reveal to us that "evil," although not inherent, does exist somewhere inside everyone, however, the majority of us can avoid even considering it. Sadly these people crossed into the darkest parts of the human psyche and destroyed the lives of so many people. But idk lol

He's lying and telling what he believes people wanna hear. He has no emotion while talking about regret and talks about it because it was asked by the interviewer.
Normal people want to believe he's capable of having feelings, but he's a psychopath, that's impossible.
Everyday people are complex, they shift emotions, do different thing. Psychopaths are not, they're compulsive and get off on the same things over and over. It's black or white, nothing more, nothing less. Everyday people are rainbows.
Humans can be monsters. What he did was horrendous. There's no knowledge enough to understand that in a philosophical way. Many of us would never cross that line.

Hey you don’t have to do it for a living to study it. One case I’ve followed is the Long Island serial killer who hasn’t been caught. Maybe it’s partly because I was born on Long Island, but the case is really interesting. Anyway I think what fascinates me is the psychology at play and what type of person could this be. Do they have a family and appear normal? How can someone be so deviant and look themselves in the mirror and feel ok?

I agree for the most part. Something about him seems sincere and he doesn’t come off pleased with himself or boastful. I think it makes people feel better to call them monsters. Actually they’re humans guilty of horrifying behavior. Each situation is different and it seems like pretty complicated stuff in terms of why certain individuals give in to whatever urges they have.

The interesting thing about these interviews & documentary on a few of these serial killers I’ve been watching lately that I notice. All serial killers have this “intensity/evil” look in their eyes.

Richard Ramirez you can see the intensity in his eyes all of the time and he answers the explicit questions when he feels like it without giving too much information.

Ted Bundy talks as very “intelligent” or tries to fool you that he is and find ways to ignore those explicit questions that we all want to know about. And then you can catch a glare of the “intensity/evil” eyes for a quick second which is scary as he “hides” his true self cause he portrays himself to the public a certain way.

Jeffery Dahmer tells “best” as he can or wants. He definitely tells more details about his killing compare to Ted or Richard. But the look in his eyes is cold and numb the entire time as he feels nothing.

I'm surprised the interviewer was sitting that close and that Jeffrey was uncuffed. Even if there was security standing right there off camera it would only take a second for him to lunge forward and try to bite him, or gouge his eyes out.. you never know what was going through his psycho mind, he could have been thinking 'hey i have a chance to do one last shocking thing to someone, on camera!'

Jesus Christ i would never have thought he seems like a genuine guy. After watching that interview with Ted Bundy, that guy just seemed like the perfect example of everything I had read about Robert Hares work which distinguished sociopaths from psychopaths as these natural born movie type charismatic ice cold predators. And then I found out that while thing he put up for the interview about porn being the course of violence, was a sham because his judge was very anti porn and he was on death row. I can't believe how young the Asian kid looked. The cops actually took Dahmers word that kid was 19, and drunk. 19 is still to young to drink, and they should've did something. What a disgrace to hand him back to a serial killer to be zombified alive....horrible.
