He has never toured the United States, where he is best known for the 1978 single "Fool (If You Think It's Over)", which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, earning him a Grammy nomination as Best New Artist in 1978. A decade later, "Working On It" topped the Mainstream Rock chart. He has sold more than 40 million records worldwide.

Let's dance
Chris Rea Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Heaven knows it's in my heart and my soul
We're caught in a world full of tears
So many bad times and fears
So while there's a chance and you're near
Let's dance
Let's dance
There's a world far away from the one we see
There's a dream I will never let go
One thing is certainly true
This moment's for me and for you
So while there's not a thing that we can do
Well, Let's dance
Let's dance
The lyrics of Chris Rea's song "Let's Dance" are a tribute to the power of love in a world full of tears, bad times, and fears. The singer acknowledges that only love can bring joy to one's heart and soul. He speaks of a world far away from the current situation and a dream that he and his lover will never let go. The song's refrain, "Let's dance," is an invitation to forget their troubles for a while and enjoy the moment together.
The metaphor of dancing is used as a way to express the idea of being light and free in the moment, forgetting one's troubles and enjoying life. The phrase "while there's a chance and you're near" implies that the singer is aware of the fleeting nature of life and wants to make the most of it while his lover is still with him. The line "there's not a thing that we can do" seems to contradict the joyous tone of the song, but it can be interpreted as a reminder that life is unpredictable and it's important to embrace the present moment.
In conclusion, Chris Rea's "Let's Dance" is a beautiful reminder that even in the midst of difficult times, love can bring joy and hope. The song encourages us to take a break from our worries and dance together, cherishing each moment.

Wonder how many people only found this epic thanks to the story of the egg in the bath?
@tryarunm
I remember this from 30 years ago. Everybody was still alive then, my mother, cousin Rohini.
@matthewbohne7238
First time I heard this was during the closing credits of "Madhouse" with John Larroquette and Kirstie Alley. My dad rewound the VCR after the movie and listened to it six times. I've found it and listened to it over the last 30 years many many times. I'm amazed it didn't take off on the radio anywhere near Ohio. (Actually, I'm not surprised... it's Ohio.)
Still a timeless song.
@RamAirBandit
Every time I hear this song makes me want to dance. Thank you, Chris.
@Divocwax
Who says he is underrated? He has a list of hits which stay relevant across decades.
@RamAirBandit
Most likely what he’s trying to say is he’s never tour the US
@fmmaj9noname332
I'm pretty versed in music, especially from the 1960s through the 1980s, and the only song I ever heard of his was Fool If You Think It's Over, and I never knew who did it. He's almost unknown in the US, despite having albums that went Platinum x6 in the UK. Terribly unknown genius, we in the US have been robbed of listening to his music until YouTube came along!
@peterbainton1032
CHRIS IS THE ULTIMATE GENIUS, I was brought up in council flats and state Ed. Every word and sentiment means so much to me. Keep rocking Chris. 😘👍
