Stapleton's music styles include Southern rock and bluegrass. He is an established songwriter with six country number-one songs including the five-week number-one "Never Wanted Nothing More" recorded by Kenny Chesney, "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" recorded by George Strait, and "Come Back Song" recorded by Darius Rucker. Over 150 of Stapleton's songs have appeared on albums by such artists as Adele, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley. Among other artists, he has co-written with Vince Gill, Peter Frampton and Sheryl Crow.

After serving as the frontman of bluegrass group The SteelDrivers from 2008 to 2010, Stapleton released his debut studio album Traveller in 2015, which reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Among several accolades, he won the Country Music Association Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards for Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, and the Grammy Award for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance at the 58th annual ceremony. His second studio album, From A Room: Volume 1 was released on May 5, 2017, reached number two on the US Billboard 200, and to date has surpassed 500,000 units sold. Six months later, Stapleton released follow-up album, From A Room: Volume 2, which, like its predecessor, debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200.

Stapleton was born in a Lexington, Kentucky hospital. His mother worked at the local health department and his father was a coal miner. He comes from a family of coal miners.[12][13] He has an older brother and younger sister.[14][15]

Stapleton grew up in the small town of Staffordsville, Kentucky, which is located just outside of Paintsville, located between the city and the Paintsville lake. He graduated from Johnson Central High School where he was his class valedictorian and attended Vanderbilt University where he studied engineering, but dropped out after a year.

Stapleton is married to singer-songwriter Morgane Hayes, who co-wrote Carrie Underwood's 2006 single "Don't Forget to Remember Me". She had a recording deal with Arista Nashville. The couple met when they were working at adjacent publishing houses. They have two children and live in Nashville.

I'm 34, just lost my mom last week at the age of 60. Very long story, but she came in and out of my life for small moments of my life, almost like an angel. She was a broken old soul.. I went through her things with my siblings.. it was all pictures and writings from us kids, with stacks of poems she'd write to herself about being broken. Sorry to hear this. Mine went the same, back in '78. I was 20, and he left me so lost. I was lost. Six yrs later, I gave my heart to Jesus and learned daddy was 'ready' to go 'Home'. About 25 yrs later, mama went 'Home' the same way. Slowly, painfully with cancer, but this time it was so different. She knew Him, and so did I. We talked and prayed and sang together! I was with her, as I had been with daddy, but this time Jesus was with me. Mama had so much peace and assurance. I was enveloped with a peace and a strength that night I never knew could exist in that way. Through much crying.... I could not stop smiling, and then laughing! All I can say is, He met us with all we needed to get through it. What a surprise. Right now I'm praying for you and yours that His strength and peace will meet you where you are. Lord bless ya, He will see you through this. It's not over yet. ✌😎

I'm 14 and last week my best friend who was also my age just died of cancer, he was fighting in a lot of pain for a long time, and the chemo just wasn't working, so he went into hospice and passed a few days later. This song was played at his funeral right when I was saying my last goodbyes. Chris Stapleton has always been my dad's favorite, but now I think I'm starting to like him too.

We here in the South are unified in the solemn and unspoken brotherhood honoring their legacy and their truth. I found this song less than a week ago. The song's message alone was enough to bring me to tears, but I didn't have a personal experience to attach it to. Then, just yesterday, a friend of mine passed away in a car accident. He was the kindest, most gentle person I have ever met. He was only 23 years old. Now this song is helping me come to terms with him no longer being here, and I can't help but imagine that finding this song so close to his passing was for a reason, but it all belongs to the by and by after all. RIP Ashton Farley, I just hope you know how much you were loved and still are. Your early passing has made it easier to come to terms with my own eventual death as now I can look forward to seeing you again my friend.

The song resonated with my late husband. He did not know he did not have long to live. He said it made the hair on his arms stand up and always brought a tear to his eye. I do hope I get to see Mr and Mrs Stapleton live in concert before or if I go suddenly as my Chris did. Close enough to come to Nashville I'm in southern Indiana. So since 2018 when my Chris could not hear this album enough I learned all songs by heart with him. Then one day he was suddenly gone. God bless you guys!

I'm putting this for my son who passed away Oct 9, 2021. I have been listening to Chris since he was with Steeldrivers but my son, never listened to country except for Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Jr. One day my phone rung with the ringtone Broken Halos, Niko heard it. He told me he really liked the song and wanted to hear the whole song. That was June, 2021, then in Oct he was gone. Now when I listen to the song, I think there are SO MANY things Niko and I shared that's what made us so complete that really the relationship we had was "so close we couldn't slide a piece of paper between us". Remember I told you earlier that my son in June of last year heard that song and he really liked it a lot then he passed away in October. Well as I read the lyrics I was thinking about what I heard one time I have heard of it being said that people who are going to pass away they pick up on certain things or hear certain things in this case lyrics that most don't hear. So what I'm trying to say is he heard something in that song that was calling him that's in my opinion. Because at one time it's true when you say Broken Halos that used to shine and Angels come down from the heavens to help us on our way.

This song helps me be ok with something's that can't be changed or fixed but the beauty in the pain can move mountains and will for many times to come in the future. Even with a bad name it's a blessing in the reasons behind the bad making that more worth it today then ever. I'm never gonna bring the past up again but it's time to keep pushing in my own life now. I'll never forget 2019 most amazing hard year of my LIFE!

I'm so sorry. I lost my husband, my first boyfriend and best friend, almost 9 years ago. It gets easier. There will be days, years from now, that the pain returns as if it happened just yesterday. But it passes, and songs like this help. ♥️

My brother in law just sent me this.. my daughter passed away the 5 year death anniversary of my sister... 11/13.. She had a major asthma attack.. She was resuscitated and admitted to ICU for a week until declared deceased from brain death on 11/21... she was only 16 years old.. this song hits my heart.. I've never heard it before until now...

I buried my best friend a few days ago she was a month away from turning 42. She died suddenly after fighting with lyme disease for over 30 years. If I had known this song existed then I would have fought to have it played. I miss her so much
