Millionaire
Chris Stapleton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say "Love is more precious than gold"
Can't be bought and it can't be sold
I got love enough to spare
That makes me a millionaire

I got a woman with eyes that shine
Down deep as a diamond mine
She's my treasure so very rare
She's made me a millionaire

When we ride around, ride around this old town
In my beat-up car, with the windows down
People look at her and they look at me
And say "That boy is sure living in luxury"
Sweet luxury

Because love is more precious than gold
It can't be bought, no, never could be sold
I got love enough to share
That makes me a millionaire

When the kisses fall from everywhere
Life reaches on, millionaire
When my pocket's are empty and my cupboard is bare
I still feel like a millionaire

'Cause love is more precious than gold
It can't be bought, no, and it can't be sold

I got love enough to spare
That makes me a millionaire

Overall Meaning

In the song Millionaire by Chris Stapleton, the first verse opens with a statement that "Love is more precious than gold, can't be bought and it can't be sold." These lines are significant as they highlight the theme of the song, which is that love is the most valuable treasure in life. The phrase "I got love enough to spare, that makes me a millionaire" suggests that the singer is appreciative of love and recognizes its worth more than material things that can be bought with money.

The second verse describes the singer's romantic relationship with a woman, his treasure as she has eyes that shine down deep like a diamond mine. She is rare, valuable, and has made him a millionaire. The chorus repeats the phrase "I got love enough to share, that makes me a millionaire," emphasizing the point that true love is priceless and makes an individual feel rich beyond measure.

The final verse suggests that it is not only romantic love that makes someone a millionaire, but also love in general. The lyrics, "When the kisses fall from everywhere, life reaches on millionaire" highlights that love can come in various forms, such as the love from family or friends, and brings joy and fulfillment that money could never buy. In conclusion, the song Millionaire is about the value of love more than money, and how being in love - whether romantic or otherwise - is the ultimate source of wealth.

Literally just yesterday I put in my two weeks' notice at a job where I was making great money, but I had to work 80 hours a week with only one (sometimes no) days off. No evenings, no weekends, and no holidays, but more money than I had ever made in my life. I took a personal day today to cool my head and get some sleep, since it didn't seem to matter anymore. Coming from a blue collar family in the Rust Belt, quitting any job makes me feel entitled, worthless and spoiled, and so I was walking around Walgreen's feeling like a lazy quitter when this song came on. Love IS something more precious than gold, and every day I work there is a day I will never have time for love or joy. Maybe I will never buy a beach house, but I will have time enough for the things that actually matter. Thanks, Chris. Sometimes it takes a poet to let you know you're on the right path.

Work to live, don’t live to work.
You can’t get that time back and nobody counts their money on their deathbed.
Go find your right path.
I wish you all the best.

When I was born, my grandfather said to my dad, "Son, you just made your first million dollars." He passed away from cancer when I was two and I never got to know him, but Mom says he asked to be buried with a picture of me on his heart. Love ya Papa. Trying to make you proud every day. I can cry for you, because inside, I still remember.

My grandpa lost his son, which was his hunting buddy, best friend, etc. But I just lost my grandpa 2 years ago and he wanted to be cre-mated like his son. So he was, but holy goddamn. He hit me hard on the heart when he passed. But now, he gave most of his things to me, guns, cars, etc. which he gave me a 1931 Ford Model A. So grateful for all the things I have left of him.
