Tomlin has recorded some of the most famous songs ever in Christian music, such as How Great Is Our God, Holy Is The Lord, Our God, and Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)

God of This City

You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation
You are
You're the light in this darkness
You're the hope to the hopeless
You're the peace to the restless
There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
You're the God of this city
You're the King of these people
You're the Lord of this nation
You are
You're the light in this darkness
You're the hope to the hopeless
You're the peace to the restless
You are
There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here
There is no one like our God
There is no one like you, God
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done
We believe, we believe in you, God
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here
Greater things, still to be done here
Ooh
The lyrics of Chris Tomlin's song God Of This City express the divine sovereignty of God over the city, the people, and the nation. The song highlights God's power and authority, which are above all human-made institutions or idols. The chorus states that there is no one like our God, emphasizing the uniqueness and incomparability of God. The repeated refrain of "greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city" encourages hope and faith in God's plans for the future.
The song also acknowledges the darkness, hopelessness, and restlessness that exist in the city, but declares that God is the light, hope, and peace that people in the city need. The second verse reinforces this message by repeating the same attributes of God that are essential for people's survival in the city.
The song is inspired by a true story of the revival that happened in the city of Belfast, Northern Ireland. The city was known for its violence and religious conflicts between the Protestants and Catholics, which resulted in bombings, shootings, and deaths. However, during the 1990s, a spiritual awakening happened in the city, and many churches started to pray and work together for peace and reconciliation. The revival brought a significant transformation to the city, and it became a symbol of hope and healing.

I first heard this song almost 20 years ago. I remember how much it impacted me. I like to be reminded of this anytime I move to a new place. Right now, it's a small village. And God is the God of this village as well. It gives me all the good shivers just thinking about it! God is good and I'm so happy He wanted us to be His lights in this world.
I pray that all of us would be so close to God, that we would radiate His light and it would attract others, and we could joyfully share about Jesus! May this be a year when many draw closer to God, whether unto first knowledge, or unto salvation.

I'm Malaysian, and the current state of my country really makes me sad.
But this song gives me hope that one day this "city" is restored..
And I believe it will be because God is the God of this city!
Thank you Chris Tomlin for such a wonderful song!

I'm from Brazil, here we have a version of this song in Portuguese, but here, the word "city" is as "here". I really like this song in English, but in Portuguese, I can sing it in Malaysia expecting God to do greater things there, even if that country there is only you who loves God. God bless you and Malaysia

Spenser Gow I know the Islamists are slowly trying to make Christianity illegal in your country. In America it is the atheists and secularists who are trying to stop the open worship of Jesus , just know a time will come when Jesus will rule over all nations and there will be no more tears or pain or suffering.
