Conquer
Christel Alsos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought they're the strongest part
We agreed where we will meet
Feel the wait given in anger
Lay them silver served as a little treat

()
I thought they're a light from a distance
Are we moving in the right direction?
It feels like marching on concrete
Every step is bringing us closer

Our fight is the only fight we can never win
Can I conquer your heart? Can I conquer the world?

()
\N I feel they don't stop it now
Pouring in, I can almost taste it
Shoulder stressed and heavy armor
It won't break this, cannot be wasted

Our fight is the only fight we can never win
Can I conquer your heart? Can I conquer the world?

You know
We have our little secret ways from here
Chasing shadows

Our fight is the only fight we can never win
Can I conquer your heart? Can I conquer the world?

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Christel Alsos's song "Conquer" are imbued with a sense of disillusionment and disappointment as she describes her realization that something she thought was the strongest is not that strong after all. The lines seem to suggest an inner dialogue, as she notes agreement being reached on where to meet, but also feels anger emanating from the waiting time. The juxtaposition of these two contrasting emotions of agreement and anger indicates a certain wavering in a relationship or situation. In the fourth line Alsos uses a metaphor, referencing laying silver out as a treat. This description perhaps hints at the idea of temptation, or the desire to buy someone's loyalty with material rewards.

The following lines are also heavily metaphorical in nature. Alsos considers if the "light from a distance" she sees is the right path to take. She then goes on to compare the effort of progressing in this path to marching on concrete, where every step seems like a struggle. In spite of that, she notes that every step brings her closer to something, offering a ray of hope in the midst of difficulties.

The chorus of the song is a question, asking if it is possible to conquer someone's heart or even the world. The important thing to note here is that while the question is posed in a somewhat grandiose manner, the answer seems to be elusive, emphasizing the futility of human struggle. The final lines of the song hint at secrecy and the chasing of shadows. Perhaps this indicates the pursuit of an unattainable or impossible goal.
