Follow Me
Christel Alsos Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the need to draw you near
So near could be
It was a glowing state, where no worry could be found
But day found light in the sweetest reverie
Follow me, follow me
I know the way, I know where it begins
I know the way, I know where it begins
There was a riverside, with flowers in the sky
With waters running deep without a warning
There was a mountain high, to steep to hard to climb
And no one ever saw the feud from up there
Follow me, follow me
I know the way, I know where it begins
Follow me, follow me
I know the way, I know where it begins
There may come a time, where we'll be strong swimmers
When the shorlines burning in the corner of our eyes
, and we'll find ourselves reaching out for something
Something that can cleanse, something that can sanctify
In "Follow Me," Christel Alsos describes a journey, both external and internal. The singer has a desire to bring someone (presumably a lover, but it could also be read as a friend or a lost part of herself) closer, to share a "glowing state" where worries are absent. The lyrics suggest a kind of spiritual longing as well, as the singer knows a way, a beginning. This could be read as a reference to faith, or to a deeper understanding of the self. The imagery of a riverside and a mountain evoke the natural world, further emphasizing the idea of a journey. The final lines suggest a kind of baptism or purification, as the singer seeks something that can "cleanse" and "sanctify."
