She was a feminist before it was "cool" to be a feminist, because belive it or not, it was extremely unpopular to be a feminist around the early 2000's and nobody, specially popstars, was really talking about these issues (which is shocking considering how strong the movement is nowadays). I’m her age and this used to be background music in the clubs I worked when I was young. I never realised at the time how important this message was. I think I just took it for granted that women had progressed in how they were treated and everyone realised it wasn’t the 1950s anymore.
