Shelter
Christina Lux Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In this world each one has a space
we all move in our own pace
what are you longing for?
you can fight like Don Quixote did
or you can learn
to let your river run free
it`s gonna be my house
if I dare to move in
a gaudi architecture
is what I see in my dream
It`s gonna be my shelter
a home for me to grow into
It's gonna be my pleasure
to share it with you
i heard seeing is believing
and I believe in love
call it kitsch if you want

but it`s magic makes me strong
it shows where I belong
an ugly duckling watching swans
put down the first brick with full conviction
it`s gonna be your own house
if you dare to build it

just the way you want it
it`s gonna be mine

Overall Meaning

The first verse of the song ‘Shelter’ by Christina Lux speaks about the uniqueness of each individual and their own personal space in the world. It poses the question of what one is really searching for, is it the pursuit of power and strength or rather the ability to let go and find freedom like a river. Lux then courageously says she believes that this world could be her own with a unique dream of Gaudi architecture. She claims that this dream would be her shelter, a home where she could grow and develop as a person – a place where she could find peace and belonging. The last few lines of the verse suggest that this house of dreams would be for everyone, a place they could come and share their joys and sorrows.

The second verse emphasises the belief that what one sees is what one gets, and the need for the magical feeling and strength that love brings. Love often makes us strong, gives us hope, shows us where we belong and provides us with courage to put down the first brick of hope. The verse ends with an assertion that if we dare to build a house of our dreams and values, it will become our sanctuary, and we will be able to live in it in the way we want. Ultimately, life can be what we make of it, and the notion of building one’s dream home parallel to discovering and building an ideal life is a strong message of hope and resilience.
