The lyrics to Christina Pluhar & L'Arpeggiata's song "Aremu rindineddha" are in the Sicilian language and are quite enigmatic. The song is a traditional lullaby sung by Sicilian mothers to their children, and the lyrics often reflect the hardships and struggles of life on the island.
The first verse starts with "Aremu rindineddha," which means "Hushaby little baby." The following lines translate to "Go to sleep, my angel, the stars are shining, the sea is calm, and the waves are asleep." The next lines are a bit more cryptic and suggest a sense of danger or unease. It says, "There are people walking here, what are they looking for? But the good man of the house holds a black stick. The cross is blue." This could hint at tensions or conflicts in the area, but the meaning is unclear.
The second verse continues with the lullaby theme, but the lyrics express more urgency. It says, "The waves are roaring, listen to them, they are calling. The water is deep, but don't be afraid. Hold tight to my breast, let me sing to you." It then ends with the line, "The rock is slippery, but I won't let you fall." This could reflect the mother's desire to provide comfort and protection for her child.
Overall, the lyrics of "Aremu rindineddha" are shrouded in mystery and ambiguity. However, they paint a vivid picture of life in Sicily and the struggles that mothers face to keep their children safe and calm.

(A. Siciliano – 9.6.2017)

ITALIANO
Chissà rondinella,
quale mare hai attraversato
e donde tu arrivi
con questa bella stagione.
Hai bianco il petto,
nere le ali,
il dorso color del mare
e la coda aperta in due.
Seduto di fronte al mare
io ti contemplo;
un po' ti levi, un po' cali,
un po' sfiori l'acqua.
Chissà per quali paesi,
per quali luoghi sei passata;
chissà dove ti sei fatta
il nido tu.
Se sapessi che sei passata
dalle parti del mio paese,
quante cose ti chiederei
perchè me le dicessi.
Ma tu nulla mi dici
per quanto io ti domandi;
un po' ti levi, un po' cali,
un po' sfiori l'acqua.

Dis-moi, mon hirondelle
Quelle marée t’amène par ici
Et qui est-ce qui t’attend
Par ce magnifique temps
Blanche est ta poitrine
Et ton plumage si noir
Ton dos couleur de mer
Ta queue scindée en deux
Assis au bord de la mer
Je te regarde encore
Quelque peu t’abaisses, quelque peu te relèves
Quelque peu tu effleures les eaux
Dis-moi, par combien de nos lieux
tu es passée
Dis-moi, où iras-tu construire
Ton joli petit nid
Ah, comment savoir si tu as traversé
Le pays d’où je viens
Tant de questions je te poserai
Tant tu me diras, tant je te dirai
Mais te voilà sans mot dire
Sur tout ce que je te demande
Quelque peu t’abaisses, quelque peu te relèves
Quelque peu tu effleures les eaux

Who knows, little swallow,
from where you’ve flown,
which seas you’ve crossed
to arrive with the fair weather.
You’ve a snowy breast,
jet-black wings,
a back that’s blue as the sea,
and a long, forked tail.
I walk along the shore
and watch you
as you soar and swoop
to skim the waves.
But not a word do you say to me,
however much I ask you,
as you soar and swoop
to skim the waves

Kim Bilir Minik Kırlangıç
Kim bilir minik kırlangıç
Hangi denizleri aştın
Ve nerelerden gelmektesin
Bu güzel mevsimde
Göğsün beyaz
Siyahtır kanatların
Sırtın denizin rengidir
Çatallanır kuyruğun
Denizin kenarında oturmuş
Seni izlemekteyim
Bazen yükseliyor, bazen düşüyorsun
Bazen denize hafifçe sürtünüyorsun
Kim bilir hangi ülkeden
Hangi diyarlardan kanatlandın
Kim bilir yuvanı
Nerelerde yapmıştın
Hep uçacağını bilsem
Benim ülkemde
Sana bir sürü soru sorardım
Böylece hepsini cevaplardın
Ancak sessizsin
Ne kadar sorsam da
Bazen yükseliyor, bazen düşüyorsun
Bazen denize hafifçe sürtünüyorsun

here is a very very rough translation;
Who knows, little bird
Which crossed the sea
And where ( it )coming from
In this spring
White and Black
Black is the colour of the sea water
With a Vee shaped tail a bird
Sitting by the water side
I seen you flying
Some times high ,some time low .

O M G! What is this?
How can this music carry so much nostalgia, how can it feel like a boat slowly rocking on lazy waves, how can it instantaneously move us in some mysterious past?
The answer is the music itself, let me dive in it again!
@princesseleamay
