Letissier said that the song is "an easy song with an uneasy subject. It's about feeling out of place, not finding your balance, or being depressed even, but with playful images, with a song you can dance on." He explained that the song is about "embracing the fact that you can't really find your balance", which in his case is embracing his own awkwardness and the feeling of being imperfect. It would therefore be about "embracing who you are", and "being proud of who you are and where you stand". He also explained the English title of the song: "The French song is talking about the same difficulty of turning on your feet. I was searching for lots of images or words that could fit, and I just stumbled upon this word, to tilt or be tilted, and I was exactly trying to find this image. It's literally talking about not finding your balance with a playful image."

So I'll fight sleep with ammonia
And every morning, with eyes all red
I'll miss them for all the tears they shed
But I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I miss prosthesis and mended souls
Trample over beauty while singing their thoughts
I match them with my euphoria
When they said, "je suis plus folle que toi"
But I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
Nous et la manne on est de sortie
Pire qu'une simple moitié
On compte à demi-demi
Pile sur un des bas côtés
Comme des origamis
Le bras tendu paraît cassé
Tout n'est qu'épis et éclis
Ces enfants bizarres
Crachés dehors comme par hasard
Cachant l'effort dans le griffoir
Et une creepy song en étendard
Qui fait
I'm doing my face
With magic marker
I'm in my right place
Don't be a downer
I'm doing my face
With magic marker
I'm in my right place
Don't be a downer
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
I'm actually good
Can't help it if we're tilted
The lyrics of "Tilted" by Christine and the Queens explore themes of individuality, self-acceptance, and the desire to break free from societal norms. In the first verse, the singer acknowledges their mortality, expressing a desire to stay awake and experience as much of life as possible. They mourn those who have passed before them, but remain resolute in their determination to keep going.
The chorus reinforces the idea that despite their unconventional approach to life, the singer is doing just fine. They acknowledge the fact that they are "tilted," or not quite aligned with the norms of society, but they refuse to apologize for it. The message seems to be that being different is not only okay, but may even be better than conforming to the expectations of others.
The second verse extends this sentiment, with the singer describing themselves as a match for others' negativity. They also reference the phrase "je suis plus folle que toi," which means "I am crazier than you" in French. This could be interpreted as a challenge to those who might judge or criticize the singer for their unique approach to life.
The final section of the song includes a mix of English and French lyrics, with the phrase "Nous et la manne on est de sortie" roughly translating to "We and the mannequin are out." This verse continues the theme of individuality, describing the singer and those like them as being "weird children" who are "spat out as if by accident." Despite this, they are proud of who they are and refuse to let others bring them down.

I saw an interview with her where she discussed her childhood which was not so great. She was "body shamed" and told she wasn't attractive (the French must have a different standard, she looks beautiful to me) and she was tormented for being gay. Out of this crucible of social stupidity came a wonderful talent filled with grace and beauty. Wouldn't it be nice if the world could see that those among us who are "Tilted" are the ones that truly make this world wonderful.
