Christophe spent most of his life in Deuil-la-Barre (Val-d'Oise), where his parents run a driving school. As a child, he learned figure skating and to play the piano. Later he learned to sing as part of a gospel choir "Young Voices". He also was composing songs at the age of fourteen.
Before deciding to study to become an economics and management professor, he continued to practice music and in 2004 he appeared in a Richard Anconina film, Alive, where he played the role of Henri, a young man with a golden voice who is, nevertheless, not considered suitable for the lead role in a musical. Since his film career did not continue after this, he returned to university, where he studied communication while working a number of part-time jobs, such as babysitting and helping in a theater.
Pushed by his family and friends, he decided to try out for the 2006 edition of Nouvelle Star. With an initial audition performance of Strong Enough by Des'ree, he surprised the judges, who did not expect such a quality voice from an admittedly ungainly-looking man. Nicknamed "La Tortue" (The Turtle) by Nouvelle Star judge Marianne James, he proved to be a popular contestant, and on June 8th, was crowned the fourth Nouvelle Star.
He has stated that he would like to record a duet on his debut album with second-place finalist Dominique Michalon.[citation needed]
He joined artists such as Tears for Fears, Lara Fabian, and Murray Head on the Night of the Proms tour 2007.
His debut album "Inventaire" was released on April 16th, 2007, while the first single, "Elu Produit De L'annee" premiered in March. the album "Inventaire" debuted at #1 on the french charts and has already sold more than 363 000 (double platinum)

La Tortue
Christophe Willem Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Qu'on veut me caresser, c'est
C'est qu'on veut bien m'embrasser
Sur le bout de mon nez
La tortue…
On m'appelle la tortue
Et je commence à m'habituer
A m'habituer à l'idée
D'une maison à transporter
On m'appellera la tortue pour
Pour au moins quelques années
Et on sait que les tortues
Vivent des milliers d'années
La tortue
On m'appelle la tortue
Et c'est une super idée…
La tortue ....
In "La Tortue," Christophe Willem sings about being called a turtle and how it doesn't bother him anymore after getting used to it. He speculates that he is called so because of his curved back or perhaps his mouth. He, however, notes that he knows it's not to make fun of him or to torture him. Willem then goes on to explain that being nicknamed the turtle isn't only because of his slow pace but because people want to caress and even kiss him on the nose. He then reflects on how he has become accustomed to the idea of having a house to transport, which is something people associate with turtles. He realizes that he will be called the turtle for a few years but notes that turtles live for thousands of years.
The song goes beyond the literal interpretation of being called the turtle and resonates with people who might feel different or not fit into society's molds. Willem, in essence, is telling those people that they shouldn't be ashamed of who they are or how they look, and that people will always have something to say no matter what they do. It's a song that preaches self-love, acceptance, and embracing one's uniqueness.

On m'appelle la tortue
People call me 'the turtle'
Et je commence à m'habituer
And I'm starting to get used to it
Peut-etre pour mon dos courbé
Maybe it's because of my curved back
Ou ma bouche ou je ne sais
Or my mouth, I'm not sure
Qu'on m'appelle la tortue mais
That they call me 'the turtle', but
Ce n'est pas pour se moquer
It's not to make fun of me
Ni pour me torturer
Nor to torture me
Que je suis ainsi surnommé
That I'm nicknamed like this
Si on m'appelle la tortue
If they call me 'the turtle'
Ce n'est pas pour la laitue
It's not for lettuce
C'est que j'avance autrement
It's because I move differently
Lentement mais sûrement
Slowly but surely
Si on m'appelle la tortue c'est
If they call me 'the turtle', it's
