I can remember being abused my mom as a child, and feeling hopeless at times. She struggled with terrible fits of rage. My saving grace as an 8 year old child was my little league football coach, who knew nothing about my repeated abuse, playing this song in his car, driving me home after practice! in my life. Still gives me chills and wonderful memories as I look back and listen.

In 1980 when this came out it was one of those songs that my mom and I listened to over and over. It defined that time for us (it was right after a car accident that put the two of us in the hospital for months and took the lives of two of my parents' long-time friends) and we always reminisced over that time when we lived to tell the tale. Fast forward to September 15, 1987, my mom died from cancer when she was a couple months shy of turning 36, and I was 15. I still play this every anniversary of her death and cry my eyes out for hours as I play every song that reminds me of her and look at old pictures of her. Today is the 35 year anniversary of that day, but it feels like yesterday. I am so grateful that this song is such a special part of my (our) life and my soul. When I listen to it, it makes me feel like she's still here with me, like I can just reach out and touch her. I would give anything to see her once more. But at least I have this song. And my heart goes out to all of those who have shared their heartfelt stories on here. I can truly relate.

@Jer 1967 right on. I need a sailboat and my homemade wine and about a week of free time right now. In the past 3 years my wife, brother and daughter died( went to heaven) and I lost my job, home and vehicle but God was with me through it all and I'm still standing. Thanks to father God🍷🏝

This is always my song since I was months old in East Keansburg, New Jersey in 1983. Growing up in Deposit, New York, WIYN 94.7 use to play this constantly. Homesick for my 80s & 90s childhood. When it's playing on Sirius XM Yacht Rock channel, I turn the volume up in my car. It's a driving song and a slow dance song. Timeless classic never gets old.

Heard this on a local 'timeless radio' station a little while back and have been listening to this song religiously ever since, haha.. I mean it's seriously amazing. I've heard it before but I was younger and life had not destroyed my innocence quite yet. It ages very well, improving as life experiences develop. :)

I guess I was in about 7th grade when this came out..... right about the time I really started discovering girls and being a young teenager. I still love this song now.... I listen to this song and reminisce about old friends, childhood, jr. High school and unspoken crushes on a special young lady.... I won't share that one.... it's all mine.

This takes me back to six years old. My sister and I are sharing our hot ass room, and we are listening to the radio in the morning, and this song comes on. That summer of 80 was really hot, and when this song came out there was a gas leak that blew up a house down the street. Thank god no one died
