Cross released his debut album, 'Christopher Cross', in 1979, and it garnered him five Grammy Awards. He's the only artist in history to receive all of the "Big Four" Grammy Awards (for 'Best Record', 'Best Song', 'Best Album', and 'Best New Artist') in the same year. Hits from the critically acclaimed album, along with "Sailing" (a number one hit that remained within Billboard's Top 40 for over three months), include "Ride Like the Wind" (which was a #2 hit), "Never Be the Same" (going to #15), and "Say You'll Be Mine" (rising to #20). Critics such as Allmusic's Mike DeGagne have lauded Cross' " crisp and colorful" songwriting and "soothing voice".
Labeled as possibly having 'peaked too early' as time went on, Cross proved the doubters wrong with another number one hit in "Arthur's Theme" (also known as "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)"). A part of the Dudley Moore film 'Arthur', the track, as stated before, won him the Academy Award for Best Song in 1981 alongside co-composers Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen. Although his popularity has waxed and waned over the years since his 70s heyday, Cross has earned a reputation as one of the key artists playing what would become known as "yacht rock" alongside contemporaries such as Loggins & Messina.
Someday

The ones who feel that love won't come
But then you find that one and only
I got something to say to you
You see the lovers walking down the street
You feel your lifes a little incomplete
And I know what you mean
Wipe the tears from your eyes
You know I would not lie
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Give your love away to someone new
Just so you can say that he belongs to you
You smile and you laugh and you duck me forever
I'm not so sure that its true
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Ooh don't give up on love
Someday will come soon
After you've found that dream you treasure
After the chill has left the air
All of the pieces will come together
The things that you can share
But only time can take you there
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Save your love for someday girl
Someday will come soon
Save your love
Someday will come soon
Ooh don't give up on love
Someday will come soon
The lyrics of "Someday" by Christopher Cross are about finding hope in love. The song is dedicated to those who have never experienced love and are feeling incomplete in their lives. The opening lines express empathy for such people who believe that they will never find love. However, the song offers a comforting message that there is still hope for them. Cross tells his listeners that there is a special someone out there for everyone, and someday they will find the one they have been waiting for.
In the second verse, Cross talks about the feeling of emptiness that some people feel when they see couples walking down the street, holding hands and smiling. He understands this feeling and offers reassurance that they will find someone too. The chorus of the song encourages the listener to save their love for someday when that special someone comes into their life. Cross believes that this person will come soon, and the listener should be prepared to give themselves up to this new experience.
The final verse of the song is about the joy that comes with finding love. Cross sings about the shared experiences that come with love and assures the listener that all of the pieces will come together. The only thing left to do is wait, and let time take them there. The overall theme of "Someday" is to keep hope alive and to never give up on the possibility of love.
