Where You Are

Moana, it's time you knew
The village of Motunui is
All you need
The dancers are practising
They dance to an ancient song
(Who needs a new song? This old one's all we need)
This tradition is our mission
And Moana, there's so much to do (make way!)
Don't trip on the taro root
That's all you need
We share everything we make (we make)
We joke and we weave our baskets (aha!)
The fishermen come back from the sea
I wanna see
Don't walk away
Moana, stay on the ground now
Our people will need a chief
And there you are
There comes a day
When you're gonna look around
And realize happiness is
Where you are
Consider the coconut (the what?)
Consider its tree
We use each part of the coconut
That's all we need
We make our nets from the fibers (we make our nets from the fibers)
The water is sweet inside (the water is sweet inside)
We use the leaves to build fires (we use the leaves to build fires)
We cook up the meat inside (we cook up the meat inside)
Consider the coconuts (consider the coconuts)
The trunks and the leaves (ha!)
The island gives us what we need
And no one leaves
That's right, we stay
We're safe and we're well provided
And when we look to the future
There you are
You'll be okay
In time you'll learn just as I did
You must find happiness right
Where you are
I like to dance with the water
The undertow and the waves
The water is mischievous (ha!)
I like how it misbehaves
The village may think I'm crazy
Or say that I drift too far
But once you know what you like, well
There you are
You are your father's daughter
Stubbornness and pride
Mind what he says but remember
You may hear a voice inside
And if the voice starts to whisper
To follow the farthest star
Moana, that voice inside is
Who you are
We make our nets from the fibers (we weave our nets from the fibers)
The water is sweet inside (and we taste the sweet inside)
We use the leaves to build fires (we sing these songs in our choir)
We cook up the meat inside (we have mouths to feed inside)
The village believes in us (that's right!)
The village believes (ha!)
The island gives us what we need
And no one leaves
So here I'll stay
My home, my people beside me
And when I think of tomorrow
There we are
I'll lead the way
I'll have my people to guide me
We'll build our future together
Where we are
'Cause every path leads you back to
Where you are
You can find happiness right
Where you are
Where you are
The song "Where You Are" from the movie Moana, performed by Christopher Jackson, Rachel House, Nicole Scherzinger, Auli'i Cravalho, and Louise Bush, is about the importance of staying connected to one's culture and community, no matter where life may take you. The song is sung in the beginning of the movie when Moana (played by Auli'i Cravalho) is still a child and is being taught about the traditions and customs of her village, Motunui. The village believes that everything they need can be found on their small island, and their way of life is centered around this belief. They believe in sharing and taking care of each other and their resources, and they are proud of their culture and traditions. The song encourages Moana to embrace her heritage and stay connected to her roots, even as she dreams of exploring the ocean beyond her island home.

Lin in Hamilton: K, Chris, your role is to play the leader of the American revolution and president of the United States. Daveed, your role is to play a rapping Frenchman and a jazz singin' president
Christopher: Great!
Daveed: nice!
Lin in Moana: Chris, your role is to be the chief of some islanders
Chris: Okay.
Sesame Street: Daveed, we need you to sing a ridiculous song about rubber ducks!
Daveed:..... Pls no.
Chris: Social Media has its eyes on you Daveed!
Basically while Chris is singing about coconuts, Daveed is dying inside and singing about rubber ducks

Pardon me,
Are you Aaron Burr, sir?
That depends,
Who's asking?
Oh, sure, sir
I'm Alexander Hamilton,
I'm at your service, sir
I have been looking for you
I'm getting nervous
Sir, I heard your name at Princeton
I was seeking an accelerated course of study
When I got sort of out of sorts with a buddy of yours
I may have punched him it's a blur, sir
He handles the financials?
You punched the bursar?
Yes, I wanted to do what you did
Graduate in two, then join the revolution he looked at me like I was stupid
I'm not stupid
So how'd you do it,
How'd you graduate so fast?
It was my parent's dying wish before they passed
You're an orphan, of course
I'm an orphan
God, I wish there was a war
Then we could prove that we're worth more than anyone bargained for
Can I buy you a drink?
That would be nice
While we're talking, let me offer you some free advice
Talk less
What?
Smile more
Ha
Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for
You can't be serious
You wanna get ahead?
Yes
Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead
Yo yo yo yo yo
What time is it?
Show time
Like I said
Show time, show time
Yo, I'm John Lauren's in the place to be
Two pints o' Sam Adams, but I'm workin' on three, uh
Those redcoats don't want it with me
'Cause I will pop chick-a pop these cops till I'm free
Oui oui, mon ami, je m'appelle Lafayette
The Lancelot of the revolutionary set
I came from afar just to say bonsoir
Tell the king casse-toi
Who's the best, c'est moi
Brrrah, brraaah I am Hercules Mulligan
Up in it, lovin' it, yes I heard ya mother said come again
Ay, lock up ya daughters and horses, of course
It's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets (wow)
No more sex, pour me another brew, son
Let's raise a couple more to the revolution
Well, if it ain't the prodigy of Princeton college
Aaron Burr Give us a verse,
Drop some knowledge
Good luck with that, you're takin' a stand
You spit, I'm 'a sit
We'll see where we land (boo)
Burr, the revolution's imminent, what do you stall for?
If you stand for nothing Burr, what'll you fall for?
Oh, who are you oh, who are you oh, who are you?
Oh, who is this kid, what's he gonna do?

What I love about Chief Tui is just how different he is from other Disney Dad's. He doesn't want Moana to leave, but it's not for selfish reasons. Unlike King Triton (in the original), we actually SEE and understand why he doesn't want Moana to go. Even though she's pushed to accept that this is her life like Jasmine and a lot of other heroines, he's not trying to make things miserable for her and he genuinely loves her C:.
@Coyoteari
Gabriel C Media YESS!! I also love how she actually tries really hard to follow his advice and be what she's "meant to be" and is actually pretty competent! So many other Disney characters are either awful at what they're "supposed to do" or they just straight up nope out.
@aloramarie5871
Gabriel C Media Triton wants to keep Ariel there because his wife was killed by a human ship. Chief Tui wants to keep Moana away because his friend was drowned by the sea... I don't see the difference.
@Coyoteari
Alora Marie That's something they added in a sequel though. In the original movie, Triton doesn't have any reasoning behind keeping Ariel at home other than a vague "it's dangerous"
