Chuck Berry remains an influential figure and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music who first began performing in 1953. Cub Koda wrote, "Of all the early breakthrough rock & roll artists, none is more important to the development of the music than Chuck Berry. He is its greatest songwriter, the main shaper of its instrumental voice, one of its greatest guitarists, and one of its greatest performers." John Lennon was more succinct: "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'."
Berry was among the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on its opening in 1986. He received Kennedy Center Honors in 2000 in a "class" with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Plácido Domingo, Angela Lansbury, and Clint Eastwood. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Chuck Berry #5 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. He was also ranked 6th on Rolling Stone's Rolling Stone's 100 greatest guitarists of All Time.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included three of Chuck Berry's songs (Johnny B. Goode, Maybellene, Rock & Roll Music), of the 500 songs that shaped Rock and Roll.
Chuck Berry held a special place, in terms of sound development, in the formation of, Mersey-Beat at Liverpool.
The finest exponent of Chuck Berry, guitar, sound at Liverpool during 1959 to 1963, was Vincent Tow/Ismail, who in turn passed on many of the learned skills to Lennon & McCartney, his friends and colleagues during that period--1959 to 1962/3.
Chuck Berry also influenced many of the great rock 'n' roll bands that we know today including The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.
It's My Own Business
Chuck Berry Lyrics

Stickin' your nose in my business and it don't concern you
It's my own business, it's my own business
Seems like the ones that want to tell you
They don't ever know as much as you
If I go buy a Cadillac convertible coupe
And all I got at home to eat is just onion soup
If I would rather ride around
In my own Cadillac convertible coupe
If I's a dignatary on Capitol Hill
And up and married me a waitress in a hot dog grill
It's my own business, it's my own business
Because I am not a juvenile
And I can go out at my own free wil
After workin' on my job and then drawin' my pay
If I want to go out and have a ball and throw it all away
It's my own business, it's my own business
'Cause I don't wait until tomorrow
To do something I could do today
In Chuck Berry's song, "It's My Own Business," the singer expresses his frustration with people who try to make decisions for him or tell him what to do. The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, with the singer telling someone that he is tired of being told what he ought to do and that the person "stickin' [their] nose in [his] business" doesn't concern them. He then emphasizes that his life is his own and no one else's and that he should be allowed to make his own choices.
In the second verse, the singer says that if he wants to buy a fancy car even if it means eating onion soup, it's no one else's place to judge him for it. He continues to assert his autonomy in the third verse by saying that if he wants to marry someone from a different background or social status, it is his own business and nobody else's. Finally, in the last verse, the singer defends his right to indulge in pleasures, like going out and having a good time, even if it means throwing caution to the wind and potentially wasting his hard-earned money.
The song overall is a celebration of individual freedom and independence, with the singer insisting that people should be allowed to make their own choices and live their own lives without interference from others.
