Colorado
Chuck Pyle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I came as a young man refugee from the plains
Was looking for higher ground where the sun shines through the rain

Where the mountain folks and the old cowpokes have found a peace of mind
I guess a love of mother nature makes you naturally kind

Colorado, everywhere I go I'm in your shadow and you're callin' to me
Colorado, the sun melts the snow makes the rivers flow to the sea

Say goodbye to Denver out across the divide
Last day of September such a fine day for a ride

It's a Buena Vista mornin', a Durango afternoon
Round a Mesa Verde campfire I'll be hummin' this tune

Colorado, everywhere I go I'm in your shadow and you're callin' to me
Colorado, the sun melts the snow makes the rivers flow to the sea

There's a warm winter sun in the window of the car
How do you know where you are?

Colorado, everywhere I go I'm in your shadow and you're callin' to me
Colorado, the sun melts the snow makes the rivers flow to the sea

Overall Meaning

Chuck Pyle's song Colorado is an ode to the state that has been his home and inspiration. The lyrics describe the experience of a young man who came to Colorado as a refugee from the plains, seeking higher ground and a better life. The song speaks to the natural beauty and the people of the state, who have found peace of mind in the mountains and a love for mother nature that makes them naturally kind.

The chorus of the song, "Colorado, everywhere I go I'm in your shadow and you're callin' to me," captures the sense of longing and connection that Pyle feels to the state. The image of the sun melting the snow and the rivers flowing to the sea is a powerful metaphor for the way that Colorado's natural beauty and resources flow outwards, drawing people to the state and inspiring them with a sense of wonder and awe.

The song's verses describe a journey across the state, from Denver out across the divide, through Buena Vista and Durango, and around a Mesa Verde campfire. The imagery is vivid and specific, painting a picture of a state that is full of natural wonders and rugged, independent people.

Overall, Colorado is a celebration of a unique and special place that has captured the hearts of countless people over the years.

Beautiful comment, Hello how are you doing đź‘‹

Some very nice words of tribute in this column, so I will keep it simple: I love the grandeur of my state deeply, and this lovely song (and video) captures its essence beautifully. Have loved it since the first hearing on "Spirit of Colorado".

That's exactly when it hooked me too.

It' s been said that when Chuck entered a room, there was everyone in the room except Chuck Pyle; always forgetting about him, he immediately took an interest in everyone else. That speaks tons about the man and his character. His music is priceless, his warm vocal timbre and flawless guitar finger picking added to his sagacious song writing make him one ingenious American original. In our hearts forever.

I miss you Chuck. Thanks for so many years of great music. Even if you did tell the same jokes over. I told them with you under my tongue and still laughed. "Always ride the horse in the direction it's going."

Simply a beautiful song, everything about it - the tune, the lyrics, the vocals, the instrumentation.

Not at all familiar w/ Chuck, but really enjoyed his song, and also learning about him from those who knew him while he was alive. Thank you for uploading the video.

After all these years, I am still thrilled whenever I get to hear Chuck's wonderful song "Colorado". His lyrics, melody, and rhythms capture so well the pulse and emotion of the "Colorado Vibe," as well or better than John Denver's famous tribute! I was saddened to learn Chuck is no longer with us. But his spirit lives on through the words of this fabulous song, which reminds me again, how lucky I am to live in this great state!
