Already Yesterday
Church Lyrics

It's already yesterday, we're off the calendar
I heard the sirens play just like an orchestra
Mechanical bird of prey sing for your emperor
Last broken flash of love still in the camera
We don't feel those locks and chains
We won't listen to the lizard part of our brains
Giving the orders
Another morning we'll be gone
I start the car for Ten Mile Beach
And maybe Avalon, across the water
It's already yesterday and nobody's answering
Disconncted, drift away, nobody's questioning
Head silver, feet of clay, who is surrendering
They fall in our heyday, I am remembering
(Chorus)
We can't feel those aches and pains
We won't listen to the voices in the city rain
Giving the orders
Another morning I'll be gone
I start the car for Violet Town
And then to Babylon, over the border

Imagine the satisfaction that must come from penning a song so mercurial, so shimmering and so melodicly perfect. I'm from Ireland, but this beauty transports me to an empty beach in Australia

This album is so great.  Brilliant lyrics.  A staple at my home in California.  My teenagers love them, too.

Hanna Thelion

that is truly cool

My fave song off Heyday. Great vocal by Steve Kilbey and the melody and chorus is simply breathtaking

aviadmei

One of the most underrated Aussie rock bands ever!!!

Mike Woods

This is a truly great song deserving of every accolade. This band was way ahead of its time. Only had Heyday for two weeks back in '86 and it got stolen outta my car. Never developed a relationship with this song... Now, I am reacquainting myself with an old lover. Brilliant!

Steve Kilbey's voice is amazing, and the band is incredible. Heyday,Remote Luxury and Starfish are excellent!!!

Roger Belger

Man look at Marty Willson Piper! The most beautiful , coolest looking guitar player in rock n roll history.

Jon Torney

One of my all time faves. It's a total summer album. Love every second.

This brings back so many memories... must have listened to this beauty a thousand times, and it hasn't lost anything of its magic through the centuries. This is from heaven.
