You took
Church Lyrics

You took a piece of my heart
And I don't know why
No I don't know why
It was clear in coming here
I must have put the horse before the cart
Before the cart
You took the lead from the start
You took the lead from the start
And I don't know why
No I don't know why
It was clear in coming here
I must have put the skin before the heart
Before the heart
You took the rest of the day
You took the rest of the day
And I don't know why
No I don't know why
Now that it's all over
Now there's just some coldness in my way
It's in my way
You took the clubs and the spades
You took the clubs and the spades
And I don't know why
No I don't know why
It's a shame it's not a game
We're playing in it's just the blurred crusade
The blurred crusade
The song "You took" by Church is a love song with an ambiguous tone that tries to explore the wild mysteries of love. Through its lyrics, the singer assumes that he has given too much out of himself to his lover. He feels as if his lover has taken from him without giving anything back, leaving him empty and cold. The singer "must have put the horse before the cart" in his relationship, meaning that he may have rushed into things too quickly, perhaps even before knowing what he was really getting into.
The repeated line "And I don't know why, no, I don't know why" could be interpreted as both a cry for help, and also as an admission of guilt. The lyrics also suggest that the singer may have been deceived by their partner, or perhaps they were never truly on equal footing in the relationship. The lines "It's a shame it's not a game we're playing; it's just the blurred crusade" allude to the fact that love can often be a game that isn't always clear to either party involved.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection on a relationship that didn't work out for reasons unknown - perhaps because the singer was too vulnerable, or perhaps because they failed to communicate their true feelings to their partner.

Clouded Thoughts
Discovered this wonderful band on a whim while visiting the Philippines. Bought Heydey not knowing anything about their music in 1987, because the cover art looked cool. Listened and was captivated by the tapestry, textures, nuances, melodies, guitar jangle, and SK's vocals. I have been a lifelong fan ever since that fateful night. I have seen the band 4 times Live, with my favorite and most memorable, being Sept 5th, 2015, at the Mystic, in Petaluma CA, where the band played The Blurred Crusade in its entirety. Greetings from Minneapolis / California. Love The Church β€οΈ.

This is my favourite song by The Church......I hope to listen to it on a burningly hot sunny day deep in the Australian outback with nobody around.

stereomusicvideo, I just want to be the one to tell you that you're doing an amazing job uploading classic music videos from the 20th century, I love watching classic music videos! To your point about the way your music video uploads look (logo free and title free), I also love watching classic music videos in 4:3 format (not 16:9, because parts of the music videos get cropped out).

You are most welcome. I do hate it when others crop 4:3 videos to 'widescreen', losing the top and bottom of the original clip.

Wow, listening to this song 1/2 step higher in pitch makes it sound that much more amazing.
