London London
Cibelle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm wandering round and round nowhere to go
I'm lonely in London London is lovely so
I cross the streets without fear
Everybody keeps the way clear
I know, I know no one here to say hello
I know they keep the way clear
I am lonely in London without fear
I'm wandering round and round here nowhere to go

While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky

Oh Sunday, Monday, Autumm pass by me
And people hurry on so peacefully
A group approaches a policeman
He seems so pleased to please them
It's glad to live at least and I agree
He seems so pleased at least
And it's so good to live in peace and
Sunday, Monday, years and I agree
I agree

While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky
While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky

I choose no face to look at
Choose no way
I just happen to be here
And it's ok
Green grass, blue eyes, gray sky, God bless
Silent pain and happiness
I came around to say yes, and I say

Green grass, blue eyes, gray sky, God bless
Silent pain and happiness
I came around to say yes, and I say

But my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky

But my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Cibelle's song "London London" describe the feeling of loneliness in a bustling city such as London. The artist wanders aimlessly, seemingly without a destination, and feels a sense of isolation as she crosses streets and sees people hurrying by. She notes that she doesn't know anyone in the city, and although people tend to steer clear of her as she roams, she feels unafraid despite her solitude. As she looks up at the sky, she searches for signs of extraterrestrial life, suggesting a yearning for something more in her life.

Despite her loneliness, Cibelle finds solace in the peaceful existence of those around her, such as a group of people interacting with a friendly policeman. She notes that it's good to live in peace and agrees with the sentiment that it's important to appreciate the passage of time. Finally, she muses that while she may not have a particular person or path in life to follow, it's ultimately okay because she's simply present and experiencing her surroundings. The song ends by repeating the idea of searching for flying saucers in the sky, perhaps symbolizing the desire for connection and meaning in a world that can often feel chaotic and uncertain.

Overall, "London London" is a song about the experience of being a stranger in a strange land and finding comfort in small moments of connection with others, as well as the beauty of simply being present in a complex and unpredictable world.

This is not an English version of a Brazilian song. It was written in English by Caetano Veloso while in exile in London during the military dictatorship in Brazil. It is funny how they say "...go looking f' flying saucers..." Ommiting the "for", originally well pronounced by Caetano.
