Proibidão refers to songs whose airplay is legally prohibited [in Brazil] due to alleged crime apology and promotion of drugs and arm usage. The duo are famous internationally for their rendition "Rap das Armas" (English: Rap of Weapons), a 1990s song originally by Junior e Leonardo, a song that also appeared on the soundtrack of the film The Elite Squad, the highest-grossing film of 2007 in Brazil.
The song illustrates the daily invasion of favelas by the elite squad of the Brazilian police in order to fight drug trafficking. Despite its popularity, "Rap das Armas" was never played on the Brazilian radio and was removed from the film's soundtrack album two weeks after its release, because it allegedly praises fireweapons and lawlessness.
Cidinho and Doca became very popular internationally through a series of remixes of their song "Rap das Armas". Originally a hit in Portugal in 2008, it became a hit all over Europe. A remix made by DJ Quintino reached the number-one spot in both the Dutch Singles Chart in February 2009. The song also reached the top of the Swedish Singles Chart in summer of 2009.

The song "Rap Das Armas" by Cidinho & Doca is a Brazilian funk carioca song that tells the story of the dangerous and difficult to invade Morro do Dendê favela in Rio de Janeiro. The lyrics describe how difficult it is for the police and military to enter the favela and how the drug dealers are heavily armed and pose a threat to the neighborhood.
The upbeat tempo and catchy rhythm of the song contrast with the dark reality of the situation the lyrics describe. The use of guns and violence is never glorified, but rather painted as a reality of the favela. The lyrics also recognize the presence of God in the area, showing a contrast between the violence and the faith of the people that live there.
The song has become a cultural phenomenon in Brazil and has been featured in movies, television shows, and sporting events. It has also been covered by various artists and has inspired numerous remixes, becoming a staple of funk carioca music.
