In 1984, Church, along with guitarist Nathan Tinkham, joined Ian Tyson's band, the Chinook Arch Raiders. Church sang background vocals on three of Tyson's albums. In 1987, Church and Tinkham joined the traditional country music trio The Great Western Orchestra founded by Neil Bentley, Dave Hamilton and mandolinist David Wilkie.
Church won Female Artist of the Year at the 1993 Alberta Country Music Awards. That same year, she joined singer-songwriters Sylvia Tyson, Caitlin Hanford and Colleen Peterson to form the country and folk music group Quartette.
During the summer of 2016, Church was performing with singers Marc Jordan, Murray McLauchlan and Ian Thomas in the group Lunch At Allen's.
Whispering Pines
Cindy Church Lyrics

The snowflakes fall, as winter calls
And time just seems to fly
Is it the loneliness in me
That makes me wanta cry
My heart is sad like a mourning dove
That's lost it's mate in flight
Hear the cooing of his lonely heart
Whisperin' pines, whisperin' pines
Tell me is it so
Whisperin' pines, whisperin' pines
You're the one who knows
My darlin's gone, oh, she's gone
And I need your sympathy
Whisperin' pines, send my baby back to me
See that squirrel up in the tree
His mate there on the ground
Hear their barking call of love
For the happiness they've found
Is my love still my love
Oh, this I've gotta know
Send a message by the wind
Because I love her sop
Whispering Pines by Cindy Church is a heart-wrenching song about a person who is feeling lonely and sad, possibly due to the absence of their beloved. The opening lines of the song suggest that it's winter and time is fleeting away, but the singer is bogged down by the lack of company. The winter and the snowflakes in the song appear to be symbolic of the singer's sense of emptiness.
The singer's sense of loneliness is also evident in the lines, "Is it the loneliness in me that makes me wanna cry?" They compare the sadness in their heart to a mourning dove that has lost its mate. The singer seems to be searching for an answer that only nature can provide. They ask the whispering pines if their love is really gone and if they can bring their loved one back to them. The pines are presented as a messenger or confidant that can provide emotional support and solace to the singer.
Overall, the song is a beautifully crafted piece of art that captures the essence of a lonely heart. It's a perfect song for introspection and self-reflection, and it reminds us that sometimes, all we need is a comforting presence to ease the pain in our hearts.
