The band's debut album,Young Chasers, was released on March 30, 2015 on the Virgin EMI label and was produced by Dan Grech. Harriet Gibsone in the Guardian described the album as having "traces of We Are Scientists, the Kooks, the Libertines and Razorlight". It features the title track from their 2014 Young Chasers EP, as well as the singles "T-Shirt Weather" and "Fossils".
The band's second album, Different Creatures, was released on March 10, 2017, on the Virgin EMI label and was produced by Alan Moulder and Kieran Shudall. After releasing three different singles ("Wake Up", "Fire That Burns" and "Stuck"), the band came up with a deeper and more mature composition that keeps the first album's energy adding more meaningful lyrics and unusual instruments like violins and cellos.
On 5 April 2019 the band released their third studio album titled, What's It Like Over There?, to critical success. It was supported by the singles, "Times Won't Change Me", "Movies", and "The Way We Say Goodbye". The album earned critical acclaim for its mix of indie and pop rock, as well as the experimentation by the band. It peaked at Number 10 on the UK Albums Chart.
On 19 November 2019 the band released the single "Jacqueline" via BBC Radio 1. The single was accompanied by the announcement of their fourth studio album Sad Happy. The album was released in two parts, with the 'Happy' side released in January 2020 and the 'Sad' side followed in March 2020. According to the band, the double album concept "represents two sides of this tech-saturated, highly insecure age".

And I need these skies
To show how
I left myself lost out the door
Riding around
... feeling eyes
So I can't see
That I left myself lost out the door
I could get way if I wanted to
My hands are tied
Tied to you
But I don't mind, no
I could get way if I wanted to
My hands are tied
Tied to you
But I don't mind, no
A silver line in a dark sky
And I pay no mind
But still try
But I left myself lost out the door
Working day
Across you
The time we pray
When I forgive you
But I left myself lost out the door
I could get way if I wanted to
My hands are tied
Tied to you
But I don't mind, no
I could get way if I wanted to
My hands are tied
Tied to you
But I don't mind, no
Stay true to you
When you know
So I'm holding out
To gracefully grow old
And the wiser any man could be
Makes the suffering all the more easy
The more easy
I could get way if I wanted to
My hands are tied
Tied to you
But I don't mind, no
I could get way if I wanted to
My hands are tied
Tied to you
But I don't mind, no
The song "Get Away" by Circa Waves is an exploration of the singer's emotional state, detailing the tension they feel between their desire for freedom and their attachment to someone or something that is keeping them tied down. The opening lines, "Oh, my heart is swollen/And I need these skies/To show how/I left myself lost out the door," suggest that the singer is feeling overwhelmed and in need of a change. They are searching for a sense of clarity or freedom, and they are hoping that the vastness of the sky can provide them with that perspective.
However, the singer is also aware that they are tied to someone or something that is holding them back. The repeated refrain of "My hands are tied/Tied to you/But I don't mind, no" implies a sense of resignation or acceptance. The singer knows that they are not completely free, but they are choosing to stay committed to their current situation anyway. The verse, "A silver line in a dark sky/And I pay no mind/But still try" could be interpreted as the singer recognizing that there is hope and possibility in their life, but they are too focused on their current struggles to fully appreciate it.
Ultimately, the song seems to be about the struggle to balance one's desires for freedom and independence with a sense of responsibility or loyalty to someone or something else. The singer is grappling with this tension and trying to find a way to navigate it without losing themselves completely.
