New Orleans has been the most corrupt city in the country for a long time, and Katrina only
made it worse when all the fed money was rolling in. I worked down there for about two years
starting the day after the levees burst for various contractors. For a while there the city averaged
a homicide a day, that they knew about. You could hear gunfire all night long. And when I say
gunfire, I mean semi and automatic weapons fire.

Most of the police split and ever came back when the storm hit. In all my time there I can
count on one hand how often I saw a NOLA PD car. Most of the time it was national guard
troops in HUMMVs. That place, IMO has an evil infestation. It's palpable.

They enforce laws when prosecutors don’t prosecute criminals. That’s the failure, not with the police but with judges, prosecutors, and elected officials. PARENTS are the other solution to this problem. I’d like to say rest in peace to all the victims of this senseless violence this documentary covered, such as the first young lady who was murdered. I’m VERY sorry for their families loss, so sad and unnecessary.

All cops should only be given 10 HR work shift unless it's a major crime wave or emergency 10 hrs no overtime unless extremely needed.. Cops have to be taught we the people pay their checks an we tell them what to do unless you have committed a real crime.

Derek Brooks was my cousin 😔 26 years old. St Anna’s kept me out of a lot of trouble after schools they help my friends and I with homework and a snack everyday after school. That building is falling apart now. Their first first cohort is well into the 30s now 🥴 I used to walk there. Now kids are sent so far from their neighborhoods to school that they have to bus them back. Wow.

the problem is corruption from someone in the mayors office, down to the judges, prosecutors and not surprising cops as well. and cops are clocking up too much over time while not actually working. but they still work their normal 8-10 shifts and then go home for the day (but stay clocked in for those extra 2-3 or more hours per week while not doing anything work related) and as a result are raking in salaries that'd make the mayor look totally underpaid

This civilian employer should have gotten a lawyer as soon as he saw violations in the workplace. Any organized fraud or civil rights violation should have been dealt with by a lawyer. As for the lack of officers, putting more offenders in long term rehab or mental health programs instead of jail would keep them off the street longer. A three strikes law for felonies could keep the worst offenders off the street permanently. The main thing is to stop the repeat offenders that take up so much police time. Some chronic offenders need to live in a halfway house with curfews, room inspections and drug testing permanently. A 6 strike law for repeat lesser crimes in a 3 year period could put these people in supervised living for years until they have a steady employment record and clean drug tests.

@Barbara Brooks How about providing a good education for kids, after school programs, policies that lift more families and thus children out of poverty so that they do not go to school hungry etc, so that they don't have to be locked up when they grow up (that is a lot cheaper than 3 or 6 strike laws. We can fire millions of dollars in missiles, yet we balk when it comes to improving the lot of our citizens. Did anyone notice the amount of police corruption that went unpunished? KIIdnapping a civilian worker from his home and "clocking him in?" All those involved need to be held accountable. And working 22 hours a day? @nlytn Auto theft, burglary, forgery, repeat shoplifting are not victimless crimes. If the offender refuses rehab and job training and continues in crime, they should be held in a secure village with employment, education and conjugal visits for good behavior. I agree that locking them up in prison permanently is cruel and unusual punishment. However, they need civil detention as they have demonstrated the inability to avoid criminal activity. Thus, they must be supervised and work to support their families in a secure place free of substance abuse, with mental health services and drug testing. People of color should not have to suffer with their neighborhoods ruined by criminals and addicts. If these offenders will not change, get them away from the public in the most humane secure facility possible, depending on the seriousness of the offense and if repeat offenders.

They broke New Orleans up and down. We used to have communities. They got all this teens running amuck and they can move in silence because the people who live the closest to them have no idea who they are when the neighbors use to watch us. They wanna keep saying “lock em up” but don’t want to help them as little kids. There are no resources for kids here!! I’ve called trying to help and New Orleans public schools doesn’t even enforce truancy! We used to go to NORD every summer for free. That no longer exists! It’s so much paperwork… kids need a birth certificate to go to camp for free now and the families that need it most usually don’t have those things on hand. Gentrification has causes severe housing instability! Kids go to schools miles and miles outside of their community because of the charter system. ALL OF THIS IS BROKEN. You can’t put bandaids on gunshot wounds. Actually start at the root of issues.

Things like this is stuff that I try and be grateful for that I live in a place where I can get a whole year sometimes with no gun crimes and that is very lucky compared to the type of places here in this video. We are 300 million people, and guess what, most of those guns are probably illegal guns that the person should have never had to begin with, proof that gun control simply does not work. We have a second amendment that is supposed to enable citizens to defend themselves from those who would do them harm, and a corrupt government should the time come. The vast majority of legal gun owners will never commit a crime with it, in fact they save many many lives you don't hear about.

The only solution to violent crime is not gun control, because criminals are going to get guns no matter what, it's having an armed populace that can fight back. Where would you rather do a shooting? In a gun free zone, or in a place where there's a huge likelihood a bunch of other people also have guns?

They successfully got rid of most of the guns in London and you know what they have now? A huge stabbing epidemic, and of course leftist politicians are suggesting things like making everyone file the sharp ends of their knives down and putting controls on kitchen knives to make them harder to get. Violent people are going to commit violence no matter what, and the police are minutes away when it takes 30 seconds to get a lethal gunshot wound, stabbed, or beat to death with a hammer, you have to enable the populace to defend themselves with guns, it's the only way that makes sense. Criminals act with impunity because the people they prey upon are sitting ducks who can't defend themselves.

Wtf people this is not what we were created to do. The ability of the gentleman who so clearly described the hopeless seeming plight of officers, that is also perfectly stated as the plight of the citizenry who must be able to more than merely survive interacting with law enforcement, perhaps that gentleman can understand the nature of what it means to decide to BE a law enforcement officer who can, through their own individual ability to use critical thinking and not simulated thinking born of fear of the very system they funnel people into, where officers pretend they are behaving so righteously for the "rehabilitation" of people who don't seem to reduce "crime" in the long haul. Or even the short haul, where the illusion is maintained that crime is reduced because they can't see the causes of crime that are still happening because caged and devalued are the ones who cannot bring themselves to see any legitimacy to the way law is practiced for some not actually so strange and not actually so mysterious reasons. If one isn't too fearful to even look in the directions in which those reasons could be seen because it would annihilate the job security of law enforcement the way it exists currently.
Not because the criminals will have "won" so much as police, having learned how to BE what can DO the job of policing, will do what would seem to be the obvious thing law enforcement would need to make sure is actually existing. And that is a true reduction of actual crime, which is so ambiguously understood that a whole system of officers can maintain, with complete cooperation of the courts, the power to use precisely the violating of the rights of citizens as the only means any officer can use to enforce law and remain employed as a police officer.

It's the metrics that drive this behaviour : more focus on guns and drugs means the rest of their skill set takes a back seat because the whole GOAL is numbers seized.

I think it instills a different mindset among officers who are caught between getting those results but also serving the public trust.

Well, there is a port here which is a pretty quick jaunt from Mexico and South American cartels. It's difficult to police New Orleans simply due to how it's shaped and how it's pretty much surrounded by water. I went down to work relief for the hurricanes Katrina and Rita. That place is pretty wild at night, even post the hurricanes it was insane. It's safer to walk the streets of the Middle East than it is to be in New Orleans.

I grew up in a poor crime filled white neighbourhood in south Australia. It's no where near as Violent as this place of course but constant assaults(6on 1 usually), theft and substance abuse. A lot of people there won't work. It is the way it is cause they like it the way it is. This is the same but worse. It won't change because they don't want it to.

They really didn't speak to enough people from the poorest parts of town. Like the families of offenders...it shouldn't be taboo to try to directly understand why people are commiting these crimes, and what in their lives led them here. The academic they interviewed studies this, but it seems like a weird oversight not to speak to offenders or their loved ones directly.

I didn’t expect there to be so many rusty guns. I wonder what would happen if that building was infiltrated somehow like I saw there was cameras but that would be scary if someone could somehow get in and get access to the literal boatload of weapons. As well as all the evidence just sitting there collecting dust, you’d think at least some of the weapons could be destroyed if the case is over with and they do whatever with fingerprints and swapping and whatever.

Ex-Police chief says that the blame is people trying to keep Police accountable and non-militarized. A few minutes later, we see a warehouse full of apprehended weapons. Looks like they had a big chunk of the answer right then and there, but because of the whole American weapon spiel, they simply can't see the problem right in front of their eyes. That seems to be the case, given the toxicity of even the mildest gun control regulations receive in the US, and for purely ideological reason. We are far from the days of the "well related militia", and right into NRA fear mongering and massive gun lobbying (why any country would legalize bribes for its fetishist is beyond me, but that's a different topic).

If the US government would turn against some of its people ( and it's always a minority, not the "we the people"), do you think your AR15s would be an effective deterrent? This is always the weirdest argument because it makes absolutely no sense. In many of the examples you have given and others you haven't, the population wasn't helpless, it was simply outnumbered and crushed by powers greater than guns: bigotry, racism, xenophobia and/or ignorance.

Those are the issues at the core, here, as shown in the video. Guns are just a profitable smoke screen.

To me... it is anti-White racism. When they blame "southern culture" for all these crimes and murders, they make it seem like White men wearing cowboy hats are shooting and murdering each other. That is absolutely not the case... just look at the demographics of New Orleans and the neighborhood were all this crime happens. Also, notice how most of the people in documentary are White... and that the filmmakers refuse to shows mugshots or pictures of those black criminals who committed the specific crimes they mentioned... such as the murder of poor Ms. Linda.
