Coldest Winter
Claire Laffut Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On lonely nights, I start to fade
I start to fade, I start to fade
Her love's a thousand miles away, miles away, miles away

Memories made in the coldest winter
Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?
Memories made in the coldest winter
It's 4 a.m. and I can't sleep
I can't sleep, I can't sleep
His love is all that I can see, I can see, I can see

Memories made in the coldest winter
Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?
Memories made in the coldest winter

If spring can take the snow away
Can it melt away all of our mistakes?

Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?
Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?
Goodbye my friend, goodbye
Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?

Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?
Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?

Overall Meaning

The song "Coldest Winter" by Claire Laffut is a heartbreaking ballad of a love that is lost and the pain that follows. The opening lines "On lonely nights, I start to fade, I start to fade, I start to fade" set the tone of a person going through the emotional turmoil of depression and loneliness. The first chorus, "Memories made in the coldest winter, goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?" suggests that the relationship she once had was profound, but it has ended. The memories made in the winter also signify the idea of frozen/lost love, conveying the suffocating, cold, and empty feeling that lingers from the end of this relationship.

The second verse, "It's 4 a.m. and I can't sleep, I can't sleep, I can't sleep. His love is all that I can see, I can see, I can see," implies that she is still haunted by the memories of him, and the love she had for this person is overwhelming her. The repetition of "I can't sleep" further emphasizes the idea of one's mind being tormented by thoughts, memories, and regrets. The chorus is then repeated again, emphasizing the memory of the "coldest winter" that once held meaningful memories for this lost love.

The final lines "Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?" further encapsulate the sense of loss, finality, and despair that comes when a relationship ends. She is questioning her ability to find love again and at a time when memories of happy times returns only as pain, winter is the best metaphor to describe the coldness and barrenness of it all.

Bonjour Metallica ? 😂

@Xelle_lolaaaaaaaaaaaaa
