Their self-titled 1995 début has been followed by two more studio albums. Each has introduced fresh new sounds and styling, something that has successfully kept them from being pigeon-holed in one genre.
Victoria Lloyd provides consistently powerful, but gentle and ethereal vocals, and haunting and enigmatic lyrics, Ben Fargen's clean and bright guitars, and Chris Ross's lush keyboards all give the band their own distinct and unique style. They are currently signed to Metropolis Records, and released their long-awaited fourth album, Lustre, in September of 2009.
The band seems to be on hiatus since July 2010.
Her
Claire Voyant Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have seen you hold her
Trembling arms and fiery eyes
Things you tell her she won't remember
The moment is all she holds in hand
I can see her smile
I can say her name
We are both the same
If I am her
Why do I damn her
am I hoping she will slowly slip away
Am I hoping she will drown and slip away
years have passed her
And many asked her
Like quiet knights in a church bells ring
If you take her you will never break her
Don't give her dreams
She will only slip away
am I hoping she will drown and slip away am I hoping I will only slip away
if only this time I would know
She fakes her mind out in an open door
She is waiting
And I know there is still some light around her eyes
She will make a sad song
And you knew it was not funny
She is only seeing you the way
The way a madman feels inside a lifeless body
And I know she is only seeing me the way...
am I hoping she will slowly slip away
Am I hoping I will drown and slip away
The lyrics of Claire Voyant's song "Her" are hauntingly beautiful and deeply introspective. At its core, the song explores the enigmatic nature of the "her" referenced in the lyrics - a woman who remains shrouded in mystery despite the singer's attempt to understand her. The first stanza sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer laments that "no one knows her," despite their own intimate connection to her. The second stanza reinforces this idea, as the singer acknowledges that even though they can see her smile and say her name, there is still an inherent distance between them.
As the song progresses, the singer's thoughts become more complicated. They wonder if they are secretly hoping for the woman to "drown and slip away," which could be interpreted as either a desire to remove her from their lives entirely or a hope that she will finally reveal herself fully. The lyrics become more metaphorical in the third stanza, as the singer imagines the woman "faking her mind out in an open door" and "waiting" for something. The final lines of the song are mysterious yet poignant, as the singer wonders if they are "hoping she will slowly slip away" or if they themselves will "drown and slip away."

No one knows her
I’ve seen you hold her
Trembling arms and fiery eyes
Things you tell her she won’t remember
The moment is all she holds in her
I can see her smile
I can say her name
The face I see
We are both the same
If I am her
Why do I damn her
Am I hoping she will slowly slip away
Am I hoping she will drown and slip away
And if only this time I’d know
Years have passed her
And many asked her
For quiet nights, for a church bell ring
If you’ll take her you’ll never break her
Don't give her dreams
She’ll only slip away
Am I hoping she will drown and slip away
And if only this time I’d know
She’ll often start to look away
She’ll take her mind off
In an open door she’s waiting
And I know there’s still some life around her eyes
She’ll take her sad song
And you know it wasn’t funny
And you’ll know she’s only seeing you the way

Am I hoping she will drown and slip away
And if only this time I’d know . . .
