Scarecrow
Clairity Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My hair might look a bit like it's made of straw,
Frizzy when it rains.
And my socks aren't matching,
That's not happening
Clothes aren't dirty,
They're stained.

I know my timing is off,
I'm taller than all the guys.

Forgive me for being strange in frightening ways...

I don't mean to be a scarecrow
Don't want to make you run away, tonight.
You and I both know how this goes,
You see my face and then you breathe a sigh.

Please don't go.
I could show,
You that I'm really okay.
I might be quirky,
But I'm worthy,
C'mon, give me a break!

I am rockin' a case of the socially awkward,
I never say the right thing.

Well at least you're laughing,
But it's still sad to think
You can't take me seriously.

Whenever I'm in the room,
You're faking another call
Don't know who your're talking to
It's probably your mom.

I don't mean to be a scarecrow
Don't want to make you run away, tonight.
You and I both know how this goes,
You see my face and then you breathe a sigh.

Please don't go.
I could show,
You that I'm really okay.
I might be quirky,
But I'm worthy,
C'mon, give me a break!

Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
I wish you liked me...

Why don't you like me?
Why don't you like me?
I wish you liked me...
Ooooo

Oh oh oh oooo
Oh oh oh oooo

I don't mean to be a scarecrow
(I don't mean to be a scarecrow)
Don't want to make you run away, tonight.
You and I both know how this goes,
(You and I both know how this goes)
You see my face and then you breathe a sigh.

Please don't go.
I could show,
You that I'm really okay.
I might be quirky,
But I'm worthy,
C'mon, give me a break!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Scarecrow" by Clairity is a reflection of the angst and insecurity that comes with being socially awkward. The song speaks of the singer's struggle to connect with others, and the fear of being judged or rejected because of their eccentricities. The song's title, Scarecrow, is a metaphorical representation of the singer's fear of being isolated and ignored, just like how a scarecrow is typically placed to keep birds away. The line "I don't mean to be a scarecrow, don't want to make you run away tonight" emphasizes the singer's desire to be accepted and understood by the people around them.

Throughout the song, the singer tries to rationalize their behavior, explaining that their quirks and eccentricities are part of who they are. They are aware that they are not like other people, but they hope that they will be given a chance to prove themselves worthy of love and acceptance. The chorus, with its catchy melody, captures the very essence of the song - the plea for understanding and compassion. The line "You see my face and then you breathe a sigh" echoes the singer's perception that people are often put off by their appearance or demeanor, which only magnifies their feelings of inadequacy.

"Scarecrow" is a poignant and relatable piece of music that speaks to the struggles of people who often feel left out or misunderstood. It is a reminder that we should be more patient and understanding of those who are different from us.
