Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Clams's song P-nut Butter Irony seem to be a reflection on the fleeting nature of happiness, and the inevitability of change and loss. The first verse suggests that happiness is something that can be defined, but also something that is elusive - it must be sought after, and it can slip away if one isn't vigilant. The mention of the color blue could symbolize a feeling of sadness or melancholy, which contrasts with the idea of happiness. SNOOPY and froggy could be references to childhood innocence, which is another fleeting aspect of life.

The second verse builds on this idea of transience, with the line "明日にはいないと知ったんだよ" (I knew they wouldn't be here tomorrow). This could refer to people, possessions, or even aspects of oneself that are bound to change or disappear. The repetition of "irony irony yeah" seems to suggest that this is a bitter or ironic realization - the very thing that brings happiness (such as SNOOPY and froggy) is also the source of its demise.

Overall, the lyrics of P-nut Butter Irony seem to be a contemplative and somewhat melancholy meditation on the impermanence of happiness and the inevitability of loss. The use of simple phrases and childlike imagery could represent a longing for a simpler, more carefree time, or a recognition that even these moments are not immune to the passage of time.

I still don't understand how this didn't blow up in views already. Catchy riffs, drown-your-ears-out-in-static sound, longing shoegaze vocals (I keep hearing "are we, are we there?"), and a hypnotizing drive through city highways... Just makes you want to dance and appreciate urban life.

Share the feeling. So many songs I found on Youtube or some random corner and wonder why they got wider circulation.

I wish I had an exact answer. Honestly shoegaze has always been a sort of black sheep of the indie rock scene that was forged from the new wave and pop/punk movements in Britain. Heralding the title of "the genre that celebrates itself" along the lack of accessibility due to the frequent experimentation that shoegaze often employed has given it somewhat of a stigma as a genre for either "music snobs" or depressed teens. Even in its rapid revitalization in the last decade that's hardly changed sadly. Best thing to do is keep putting the word out there that its an international genre of music that spans so many more cultures, sub-cultures, and ideologies and deserves recognition from those you know will appreciate it.

the thing i love and hate most about shoegaze is how difficult it is finding information on a lot of these bands however there's something nice about half of the songs i listen to having been posted here 10+ years ago
