Little Wing
Clapton Eric & Winwood Steve Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With a circus mind that's running 'round
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind
When she's sad she comes to me
Thousand smiles she gives to me
Anything, take anything you want, hey
Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Ever thinks about, hey, hey
When I'm sad she comes to me
A thousand smiles she gives to me free
Said, "It's all right, take anything you want"
Anything (anything), (anything) anything you want
The song "Little Wing" by Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood is a cover of Jimi Hendrix's original track. The lyrics are relatively simple, with two alternating verses each describing how the singer is someone that the singer cares for deeply. The title "Little Wing" itself refers to someone who is light and effortless, like a bird's wings.
The first verse describes the singer as a dreamer who lives in her own world, with thoughts of "butterflies and zebras, fairy tales," while "riding with the wind." The second verse describes the singer as a comforter, someone who comes to the singer when he is sad and offers him a release, saying "It's all right, take anything you want." The song seems to be a tribute to this person's free spirit and their ability to offer solace in times of need.
Overall, the song's lyrics are fairly abstract and lend themselves to multiple interpretations. While the original Jimi Hendrix version may have been inspired by an actual person, Clapton and Winwood's cover is more about the feelings that the person inspires in the singer.

thanks friend. I had an older sister of six yeas who pretty much took me all over the concert scene around the N.Y. C. the Island gigs and even Woodstock and the civil rights protests in D.C.as an 10 - 13 year old kid. She's past now and these tunes bring back so much of the unity we had back then. It was a righteous time and the music was real as we stood together in the fight for civil rights ,world peace an social justice. . The music ment so much. We were willing to give our lives. yeah and that was something.

They complimented each other magnificently. Eric Clapton solo was from the heart and the best I've ever heard him sound. He should duplicate and never deviate from this great solo. Steve Winwood was magnificent. How could anyone thumbs down this?
