Shield And Sword
Clare Maguire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Felt so good to begin with didn’t we?
Well now it seems there’s far too many adverts in between
And we don’t speak
So we’re left in constant silence
It’s haunting me
So I’m ready now to fight this
I’ll take the sword
I no longer love you
No longer love you
I’m not afraid of danger in the dark
I no longer love you
No longer love you
You and I aren’t working
Burning on the bridges now
We’re trapped inside
Screaming won’t somebody get me out
You have the shield
I’ll take the sword
I no longer love you
No longer love you
I’m not afraid of danger in the dark
I no longer love you
No longer love you
I no longer love you
No longer love you
No longer love you
No longer love you
And we don’t speak
So we’re left in constant silence
And it’s haunting me
So I’m ready now to fight this
You have the shield
I’ll take the sword
I no longer love you
No longer love you
I’m not afraid of danger in the dark
I no longer love you
No longer love you
No longer love you
You and I
Felt so good to begin with didn’t we?
But now it seems these shields and swords are haunting me
The lyrics to "Shield And Sword" by Clare Maguire are a poignant and introspective reflection on the unraveling of a romantic relationship. The verses describe a couple who began their relationship with excitement and positivity, but have now become distant and disconnected, interrupted by too many "adverts in between." The singer characterizes the resulting silence as "haunting" and is therefore "ready now to fight this," articulating a desire to address the underlying issues that have caused this profound disconnect.
The chorus is a powerful statement of the singer's resolve to let go of her partner and move forward. She announces, "I no longer love you," and highlights her bravery in facing whatever challenges may come her way by stating, "I'm not afraid of danger in the dark." Her statement that "you have the shield, I'll take the sword" implies that she is willing to take on the challenges of their relationship alone, while her partner remains sheltered and protected.

This song is absolutely amazing, the fact that it's almost impossible to find is so disheartening. The world needs to hear it!

When an artist like this doesn´t have enough recognition, I start to rethink my faith in humanity. So unfair.
@incisorboy
+carloscream Totally, really unfair. Actually, she sounds a bit like mareesa.

I think it was the enviroment that didn't lead clare to a huge launch worthy of this song. She came out the same time LadyGaga was being celebrated. Little boots didnt get enough attention either. Now she's still making greaat music, but I think she fired her manager because she didn't identify herself with the persona portrait in this album

I remember 2011, when her album came out just when Adele released "21"...that must have had some effect too. Adele snatched everyone´s wig at the time.
@ernestobordon8731
Y Started to listen her the same year in VEVO plataform with The Last Dance , she deserves more recognition than Adele
