Numb
Clark Jr. Gary Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing
Well I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing

She give me hard time in the day
A hard time at night
She can be so sweet till she wanna
Fuss and fight

Till I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing
Well I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing

Ain't passing from the right
I'm, passing to the left
Burn this whole thing down
All, by myself

Till I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing
Till I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing

Well I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing

Well I'm numb
Yeah woman I can't feel a thing

Overall Meaning

In "Numb," Clark Jr. sings about feeling emotionally disconnected and desensitized in a toxic relationship. The lyrics "She give me hard time in the day, a hard time at night, she can be so sweet till she wanna fuss and fight" suggests that his partner's behavior is unpredictable and that she might be emotionally manipulative. The repetition of "till I'm numb, yeah woman I can't feel a thing" throughout the song portrays his gradual distance towards emotions, as he tries to detach himself from the pain that his partner is causing him.

The chorus of the song serves as a major theme, as Clark Jr.'s character is unable to feel any emotions. Even though he acknowledges that this feeling might not be a healthy one, his numbness is a response to protect himself from the emotional turmoil that he is currently experiencing. The lines "Ain't passing from the right, passing to the left, burn this whole thing down, all by myself" suggest that he is ready to walk away from the relationship and start anew, even if he has to do it all by himself.

In conclusion, "Numb" is a raw and honest portrayal of a relationship that has gone sour, leading to emotional disconnection and numbness. Clark Jr.'s soulful voice and gut-wrenching lyrics make the song relatable to anyone who has been in an unfulfilling or toxic relationship.

It don't get much more raw, crunchy, and gritty than this which is what I enjoy greatly! Went to a Kings of Leon concert in Columbus, OH. years ago and I really only went because Gary Clark Jr. opened for them lol. I stayed for a few Kings of Leon songs, just isn't the same!

This is the problem with austin musicians we get spoiled and don't discover them for 10 years. This is top 5.. maybe top 2...this is amazing

@hebertjoshua19

Lets not compare a musician to another, instead give this man some credit for keeping the rock scene alive in a scene that's now dominated by pop!!!!
