Elizabeth Harper is a former drama student from Los Angeles, USA. Harper also pursued a solo career as an indie rock singer-songwriter. She released a studio album Elizabeth Harper in 2004 (2005 in the UK and 2006 in Japan). After the producer Mark Richardson remixed a song, she preferred Richardson’s version to the original, and the two eventually reconvened in Brooklyn. They began fusing Harper’ songs with sampled drumbeats and synthesized instruments and named the collaboration Class Actress. Later, multi-instrumentalist/engineer Scott Rosenthal joined the group.
In 2010, Class Actress released the 5-track EP Journal of Ardency on Chris Taylor’s (of Grizzly Bear) Terrible Records.
In October 2011, the band released the debut album Rapprocher (meaning "to come closer" in French) on Carpark Records. The album received many positive reviews. The single "Weekend" supported the album.

Careful What You Say
Class Actress Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You just keep repeating the same thing obviously
This place is driving you insane
All the little noises spark in you a murderous rage.
Careful what you say oh dear its too late now,
You've woken the guards.
Careful what you say oh dear its too late now,
how many times do I have to say it?
Maybe it's my fault for leaving you here
But there's no gun to your head just a flight of stairs
This place is driving you insane
You just keep repeating that as I back away
Careful what you say oh dear its too late now,
You've woken the guards.
Careful what you say oh dear its too late now,
You've broken my heart
Ooo ooo how many times do I have to say it
Ooo ooo how many times do I have to say it
who's calling you out again?
who's calling you out
Careful what you say
Careful what you say it hurts me when you talk that way.
The lyrics of "Careful What You Say" by Class Actress seem to address a toxic relationship in which one person is trying to leave the other person, but their partner can't handle it. The opening verse refers to the partner repeating the same thing over and over, which is possibly a plea for the person to stay or to change their mind. The place they are in is also driving them insane, which could indicate that they are trapped in a particular environment or situation that is causing them mental distress.
As the song progresses, the mood becomes more ominous. The repeated warning of "careful what you say" implies that the person who is trying to leave is in danger or is being threatened in some way. The line "you've woken the guards" suggests that the person's attempts to leave have caused some kind of reaction, possibly from the partner's friends or family.
The final section of the song reveals that the singer is hurt by the partner's words and their behavior. The final repetition of "careful what you say" is almost a plea to the partner to stop hurting them with their words and actions.
Overall, the lyrics of "Careful What You Say" suggest a dark and unsettling situation in which one partner is trying to break free from the other, while the other can't handle it and is becoming increasingly dangerous.
