my dog died a long time ago, this was her favorite song. My mom would play it on piano and my dog would curl up next to the piano and sleep. I looked up Debussy to find a certain song I couldn't remember the name of, and accidentally clicked on this. Nostalgia. Pain. Guilt. Calm. All at once. Its crazy how much power music can have. I know the entire thing by heart and will immediately know the song just by the first few notes. Reverie translates to dream/daydream, and in listening to this I unlock memories I have forgotten. Reverie is much more than a song to me. It is a story, emotions, a part of who I am. Debussy is a huge inspiration for me, after growing up listening to this song I wanted to learn piano. I am now learning Reverie and Claire De Lune, both are part of my memories. Debussy has had such an impact on my life. I don't generally like classical piano, but I could listen to his songs all day. I love his music so much. It almost puts me in a trance, a certain dreamlike state of calm. I can't explain it. My parents split up after my dog passed, leaving my mother to be a single mom. Yet, she still cooks delicious meals, plays piano and saxophone despite having a chronic disease, and I woke up to her playing this on the piano today. Somehow I know that our dog, Sammy, is still here listening. She's still here, curled up next to the piano, watching over both of us as an angel. This song took me on a trip. my dog recently passed away on July 15th but he loved listening to me play piano. this piece was the last piece I played for him before he passed and he loved listening to it and falling asleep to it. each time I played piano for him (which has been about 11 years now, and he was 12 years old when he passed) he would listen to it and fall asleep and it was the cutest thing ever. he passed away suddenly from a type of cancer that is really hard to detect, so it was very surprising

I was up late last night to get something to eat and I always pass a window to my backyard. For some reason, I found myself looking outside that window all while listening to this song. I started to notice how the light of the moon always seemed to light up the yard and I could see every detail of it. From the trees, to the leaves, the blades of grass. It all had a stillness, silence, peacefulness. I never really looked at it to admire it until I started listening to this song.

I've never been a fan of classical music, my mom taught piano my entire childhood and it made me despise it. I was so sick of it all. But one night, about half a year ago, I broke down and sobbed on the floor of my bedroom at one in the morning. I turned on the first playlist I could find to help me calm down, and it was Debussy's music. It actually made me cry harder, which wasn't what I was exactly looking for, but it honestly spoke to me in a way that nothing's ever spoken to me before. I think I stayed on my floor crying for hours, all to this music. I just couldn't really stop. But it was beautiful then, and it's beautiful now. Honestly, whenever I hear this song, I cry. But now it's not from sadness. It just makes me feel understood somehow?? It makes me feel peace. It makes me feel so light I could float away in the wind. I dunno man, but when you listen to Debussy's work it makes all the things you worry about seem so small and meaningless. It forces me to remember how brilliantly breathtaking the world really is.

I have an uncle that's struggling with a lot of mental health problems, and I've never been able to connect with him. But today while he was at our house, I found the sheet music to this song, printed it off, and asked him if he would play it for me. He's a brilliant musician, but I've never taken the time to actually listen to him play. This time I did. It was an experience I will never be able to forget. Wow was it beautiful. I just sat there with my eyes closed and felt more peaceful than I've ever felt in my life. Music is so incredibly underappreciated for the things it can make you feel. I don't know how else to say it. I wish I could make you understand how incredible it is.

So now, if you ask if I enjoy listening to classical music, or what my favorite piece is, I won't roll my eyes. I think I might cry instead.

If you feel this way just listening to the music, I can report first-hand that producing it from your fingertips, adding your own special interpretation, is a transcendent experience all its own. My mother would play this and other classical music on her Steinway piano. Now I hear this and it brings back memories from my childhood when mom would play for us. Mom died in 2020 at the age of 97 still able to play wonderfully on her piano.

This piece is a rollercoaster of emotions for me, and I feel like shedding a tear everytime I hear it. It paints a picture of a wonderland in my head, very much like the picture in the video. A beautiful, snowy landscape all the way to the horizon and further beyond that. My very own wonderland. The sun paints a light golden yellow over the sky, and makes the chill breeze feel almost warm. A place filled with joy and freedom, no consequenses. I feel like I can truly relax for the first time in ages.
The piece then makes me remember that it doesn't exist, it was all a daydream..

Most people probably find this song simply pleasant, and you should too, if you can. For my sake, and for everyone else's sake, try to stay optimistic about as much as you can, even if it's hard. It might be hard to be optimistic in rough times, but it's a thousand times harder if the dark void of depression gets a hold on you, trust me. Sorrow brings pessimism, pessimism slowly brings depression, and deppresion can ruin your life, so please don't be sad. Be happy; you look great with a smile on your face!

We will meet Mum again when we go. My Mum passed away nearly four years ago. I myself was 51 at the time and I said to her just a few hours after passing on
'I'll be back. In 30 to 60 years from now we'll be back together'.
I then picked up her hand which was still warm, and gently stroked the side of my face with it. Sort of just to feel like she was with me still and doing what she always did. Love people, think of others, be affectionate, be there. A wonderful loving Mum.

I used to paint Chinese traditional painting and I can always relate Debussy with the scene I imagined in the painting, it feels such an enjoyable thing when you not thinking what the composer tried to convey but a deep focus on what the master piece brings to you deep inside.

My mom used to listen to this song when I was younger (she still listens to it), every time I hear it brings back memories of my childhood, memories of books I read while listening to this song, movies, fights with my sister, family moments and other memories too . Not only the masterpiece is spectacular, the pianist is also. I have listened to many players of Debussy's work, and always end up coming back to this particular composition played by Thiollier. He brings out such a deep and calming sentiment, not only in his choice of speed, but of volume as well. Debussy's melody is truly a reverie that is otherworldly and difficult to express. Thiollier expresses it beautifully! Thanks for sharing.

I agree. Many pianists (including Debussy himself, in recordings of him playing it) use a more poignant, anxious, dramatic tone for this piece, but Thiollier uses a very different (and much calmer) interpretation. I'm very glad that all these different renditions exist, and none is more "correct" than the others-- if so, we'd have to defer to the man himself, of course. But for me, Thiollier's interpretation is a personal favorite.

The image and the piece go together so well, it seems so peaceful, lonely, happy, and dreamy. Debussy’s music in general sounds like music that you would hear in your dreams. Debussy was truly a genius.

Listening to Debussy’s masterpieces most certainly provides moments of deep relaxation. My absolute favorite among his repertoire is entitled “REVERIE” played on the piano, and which evoke lethargic, dreamlike and surreal imagery in a remote, idyllic landscape (alongside a murmuring brook, in a meadow full of wildflowers).

Every time i listen to this piece, i imagine myself like a young girl living at the 1800 year, walking in a beautiful garden with my blue long dress, later sitting over the flowers and writening a letter to the love of my life who lives miles away and who somewhere in time promised me to marry me.

Ive got a CD of FJ Thiollier playing debussy's compositions, which i originally bought due to hearing his rendition of Mazurka.

This is beautiful. His playing is so nuanced and exceptional in capturing a myriad of moods. I knew there'd be melancholic sections, but the soft uplifting ending was so fulfilling; a real tonic for the heart.

This piece is a really special piece to me because it accompanied me trough troubled nights. Its like a lullaby but it doesnt just shush me and tells me to calm down and sleep. This piece tells me that it understands my stress, panic, ilness and all the negative things filling my head. It says it understands. Then tells me that i need rest. That things will get better if i think about them with a well rested healthy mind. Then it acompanies me to sleep. And when i wake up, it is still playing on my phone, so when i wake up i'm reminded that i made it trough that night, that i managed to sleep.

I don't have sleeping problems but when my mind is too full of negative things then i cant stop thinking about them and then i realize i cant sleep and panic because i know i cant make it trough the next day if im not well rested because my body cant function without 8 hours of sleep.

I fırst discovered this piece a year ago when i was corona and i literally listened to this piece for days during that time. And when i was way better but still quarantined i was getting really bored. So i decided to try and play this piece on the piano so the last four days of my quarantine was just me working on this for hours.
Ever since that it holds a special place in my hearth.

i've always loved the one bit that goes from 1:59 to 2:05. it has always felt to me like it has an entire different tone and feeling than the entire song. makes me feel a bit like that sensation you get when you are realizing late you made a mistake.

Out of all the exam pieces I had to learn as a kid, this one is the only one I really enjoyed playing (and actually still remember) just for the heck of it, even after so many years. Learned it for my ABRSM Grade 8 C piece over 20 years ago, still brings tears to my eyes.
My small hands can barely play octaves easily, I didn't mind playing through pain, it was well worth it.
