Surprise
Claudia Brücken Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't care
What your motives are
For all I know
You might break my heart
I'm not scared
If we go too far
In heaven or in hell
You can never tell
How things will turn out

There's a light in your eyes
It might be telling lies
It might be paradise

Don't know how
Don't know why
You took me by surprise
And now my hopes are rising high
Don't know how
Don't know why

You send me out
Beyond my wildest dreams
High on life
At least it seems that way
If what you say
Is who you really are
Then I don't care
What your motives are

There's a light in your eyes
It might be telling lies
It might be paradise

Don't know how
Don't know why
You took me by surprise
And now my hopes are rising high
Don't know how
Don't know why

Don't know how
Don't know why
You took me by surprise
And now my hopes are rising high
Don't know how
Don't know why

Don't know how
Don't know why

Don't know how
Don't know why

Don't know how
Don't know why
You took me by surprise
And now my hopes are rising high

Don't know how
Don't know why

I love this song

brianartillery

Oh, God, I forgot how wonderful this was! Always loved how her voice drops in pitch on certain words, and how her accent remains. Don't know about you, but I find this makes her sound irresistibly sexy. [Not difficult: she is. I envy Paul Humphries of OMD] Anyhow, the best track from an exquisitely crafted album.

Such a "grand" song to end an outstanding solo album like "Love and a Million other Things". I, too, believe that 'Surprise' is probably the best track on the album. Is it it's lyrical minimalism or the sophistication/experimentation of the music. It's quite Kate Bush-like. It stays in your head forever. THANK you for posting.

"unforgivable" is my favourite track. the chorus is killer!
