Longet has never performed again after the criminal trial, and the Sabich family initiated civil proceedings to sue Longet. Lead me on to bliss
You, touching my face with care
Love is surely this
Night-time love belongs to you
We shall love till night is through
You and I know love can never die
I never believed in loveTill you came my way
I never believed my heart
Till you made it stay
Love at last has come to you
Only love can make blue
You and I prove love can never die
You and I prove love can never die
You and I prove love can never die.
The opening lines of "Love Can Never Die" by Claudine Longet set a dreamy and romantic scene under the night sky, suggesting a sense of enchantment and poetic beauty. The imagery of being led towards 'bliss' under the stars conveys a sense of guidance and revels in the magical atmosphere of the moment. It paints a picture of a deep connection between two individuals, hinted at by the tender touch on the face, emphasizing care and tenderness as key elements of the love being described.
The lyrics shift from describing the physical sensations of love to a more profound realization of its enduring nature. The singer expresses a newfound belief in love, attributing this transformation to the presence of their beloved. The lines "I never believed in love / Till you came my way" suggest a shift in perspective and a sense of awakening brought on by the arrival of this person in their life. The imagery of the heart being made to 'stay' implies a sense of permanence and emotional depth, indicating a significant impact on the singer's life.
The recurring motif of night-time love and the idea of loving until the night is over adds layers of symbolism. It suggests a sense of timelessness and a commitment to love that transcends temporary moments, emphasizing the idea of lasting and enduring love. The notion of love being able to 'make blue' speaks to its transformative and healing qualities, suggesting that love has the power to change one's emotional state and bring a sense of happiness and contentment.
The repetition of the assertion that 'love can never die' underscores the central theme of the song – the belief in the eternal nature of love. By providing evidence in the form of the singer and their beloved proving the permanence of their love, the lyrics offer a sense of reassurance and affirmation. The song concludes with a sense of certainty and conviction that love is a force that transcends the passage of time and remains a constant presence in the lives of those who embrace it wholeheartedly.
