I'm sure that you are a wonderful mother and caregiver. However, not all moms are "super heros" in fact, MANY mothers are abusive and selfish. This "We" mothers thing only serves to cover for this abuse and makes it harder for children, the victims, to be taken seriously. Remember when women told men that if they were silent or didn't do anything about a man's abusive behaviour, then they were just as guilty? That takes me back 20 y/o ago. We always left our bedroom door open so we could hear our son. He was 2 y/o and just got a new reg, bed. One night he got up and closed our bedroom door and set up a party on the dinning room table. What a mess he made, while we were sleeping. My husband woke up and then woke me up and we stood there so surprised, he had took food out of the refrigerator, pudding cups and chocolate covered Ice cream on a stick with the ice cream melting and dripping on the kittys head. He also got out the ajax but luckily didn't use it. Yes, lol they give you such wonderful memories!

You can be stages of awake/asleep. You're not fully rested unless you get enough REM sleep, which can be disrupted by things like this. If it goes on long enough, it can drive you insane or kill you, varying a lot with diet and exercise, and there are sort of emergency protocols in your brain, but they don't always work.
So, public service announcement: take turns with your spouse, folks, when possible.
It was rough for us, because I'm a light sleeper but we breastfed, so even when she's getting up, I wake up anyway, and even when I'm getting up, she had to be semi-conscious when it was a hungry baby call. It worked out eventually. Mostly. I still automatically wake to check on them periodically whether I want to or not, lol.

Whenever my niece stays the night she sleeps in bed with me. I notice my sleeping patterns change dramatically. I’m somewhere between consciousness and sleeping. It’s like I wakeup at all the right times. She kicks off blankets and I wakeup put them back on her. She figured out how to turn on the tv at low volume when she can’t sleep I don’t wakeup to that but once she starts getting too tired to move I wakeup and fix her so she sleeps with warm blankets and pillows. She once took her dipper off and I popped awake put a new one on her and scolded her then went back to sleep. The look of shock and horror mid diaper removal had me cracking up the next morning. Her mom warned me that if I don’t put pants on her at night she would try that and she never tried that with me again.

I just sleep lighter when my niece is in my bed with me. I catch her when she’s moving around in her sleep. I remove her little hands from my hair. I position her so she’s more comfortable.

I’m still kinda confused as to how I wakeup feeling refreshed even if I somehow do all that all night. It’s so odd! I’ll be up before her with breakfast ready and she will always wakeup and say “Aunti? Where Aunti?!” I’ll say “I’m in the kitchen if your hungry. Be careful getting out the bed you are only a baby!” She’s only fallen out of bed once when she was smaller but that’s about it. It’s not too high off the ground so she was more startled than hurt. Anyway that’s pretty much our night and morning rituals. The day is spend up under me and following me everywhere. She knows she’s my baby.

Some of us dads and single dads go through the same and this dad loves every single minute of it. We are always wearing ourselves out for business and customers and have nothing left for our children half the time or more, thus the above happens. I changed some things around to minimize this neglect including my work schedule. My children need me far more than any customer. ...they still sleep like corn popping pretzels in my bed but with my new resolve which somehow automatically created a deeper feeling and understanding for what my children are going through (post c19) I am just fine with it all. My new work schedule, off Fri thru Mon and 10:00am to 4:00pm Tue thru Thurs. Has it hurt income? Just a bit but it certainly is not hurting my kids.

This happens to fathers too. I'm a single custodial dad. My children are grown now, but they used to climb into bed with me because of the strangers the ex allowed into the house into the night. Even after the ex left they still climbed into bed with me. At time of the divorce they were ages 2 to 8.

I would often wake up with all four of my children around me. The two youngest often slept at my feet.

These are such happy memories for me. At times I miss it.

I am still very close with all my children... Except my son right now he's too cool to show affection.

maybe I'm hyper active and was still running in my sleep. Maybe I needed to kick some energy off before I could fully relax.

Once I ran into their room shouting "My bed was shaking!" all those years ago, apparently we had a tiny teeny Earthquake that was strong enough to just rattle a young child's metal bed. It actually shaked the room, the house but not enough to break anything luckily.

@@traceyreed4885 No Tracey! Brad is right. I'm a horrible parent, I taught him how to ride his bike, motor bike, hunt, camp. Pick him and his mates up at 3 am if someone's car breaks down. Sat with him in hospital when he was very sick with the croop. But people like us are terrible people 🤣🤣🤣. Also taught him how to box as well.

I was a single mom and my two kids slept with me in my bed with the door locked. No waking up in the middle of the night going out to check on them. This was a much simpler solution. When they were ready to sleep in their rooms by themselves, I gladly let them go. No brainer.

I know that some single parents have to sleep with their kids cause of space issues, etc. Dated a couple of women with toddlers and I don't know how the f they do it. Getting kicked in the ribs, elbow in the back, foot to the nose. She slept like a rock but for me it was like being in an MMA fight where I can only do defense.
