New York City
Claudio Disefalo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Want a man with a scar on his face and a peg leg
Drives his cab fifteen miles per hour down Broadway
Looks at me with his crooked smile while Gershwin plays
Hits his breaks and points out the freaks on St. Mark's place

Here we go
Its the rythmn of the rain that falls
Its a cab ride at five a.m.
Manhattan goddess with your Levis and curls
New York City I'm coming home again

I sit and smile think about summer sundays and the roller skates
And their wigs and rainbow socks float past like a ballet
Peanut rosters poppin' up on every corner can't you taste that taste
Makes me long for an early morning ride on the subway

Its the rythmn of the rain that falls
Its a cab ride at five a.m.
Manhattan goddess with your Levis and curls
New York City I'm coming home again

You can steal a line on a phrase and wreck a company on cheer
Sign you off make you an artist make you a millionaire
Shake your hand pat your back give you a big white smile
Then they'll say that they're your biggest fans and share the love you star

Its the rythmn of the rain that falls
Its a cab ride at five a.m.
Manhattan goddess with your Levis and curls
New York City I'm coming home again

Its the rythmn of the rain that falls
Its a cab ride at five a.m.
Manhattan goddess with your Levis and curls
New York City I'm coming home again

Its the rythmn of the rain that falls
Its a cab ride at five a.m.
Manhattan goddess with your Levis and curls
New York City I'm coming home again

New York City I'm coming home again
New York City I'm coming home again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Claudio Disefalo/moe.'s "New York City" paint a vivid picture of the city through the eyes of a native returning home. The song starts with a request for a cab driver with an interesting appearance like a scar on his face and a peg leg. The cab moves slowly down Broadway, while the driver glances over at the singer with his crooked smile as Gershwin plays. The driver even stops to point out the "freaks" on St. Mark's Place. The singer can almost feel the rhythm of the city coming back to him.

The song continues with a nostalgic longing for summer Sundays spent on roller skates, and the sight of people in rainbow socks gliding by like a ballet. There is also the taste of the peanut roasters on every corner, which the singer seems to savor. The singer then contemplates the fickleness of the entertainment industry, where sign-offs and corporate cheerleading can make or break a career, regardless of talent. Despite this, the singer is undeterred, knowing that the city will always be there for him like an old friend.

Overall, "New York City" is an ode to the city that never sleeps, a love letter to the sights, smells, and sounds that make the city unique. It is a song for anyone who has ever left home and returned, feeling that deep sense of familiarity and warmth that only a city like New York can provide.

This video fully introduced New York City through its history, current condition, and the filmer's personal experience of visiting this city. New York City is so magnetic that almost every ambitious person wants to be here. This megacity has the most job opportunities for employees to succeed around the globe, even though it is typically tough to afford the living costs in the beginning days. Moreover, New York City is the most diverse and inclusive metropolis compared to other cities, which is due to the roughly 800 languages spoken here and the well-developed ethnic communities. So if you want to make your dream come true as far as possible, just pick your luggage and dive into this city!

I used to go to New York for work and really miss going there. NYC has everything, Broadway shows, great restaurants, museums, everything you might look for in a large city. And there is a certain "buzz" to New York when you are walking around, not to mention all of the history as well.
