Unlucky in Love

and takes you away, baby, from where you belong
and leaves me torn in a daylight trap
where hell waits behind every door
with John Denver songs
and nights so dark that little boy hearts
will beat in syncopated dismay, always:
Whatever you wish you can have
first gift to unwrap: a free access card to the shrink
next gift is a lifejacket placed below your seat
that you should put on before you're startin' to sink
your bags are packed, your beauty unmasked
like secrets that you share with anyone under the sun
Unlucky in love, unlucky in love.
The lights switch and we all wish
we could trade love for a cheap drink
and a bright surf city sun that always shines
and nights so dark that little boy hearts
will beat in syncopated dismay, always:
Unlucky in love, unlucky in love.
In the song Unlucky in Love by Claus Hempler, the singer laments the harsh realities of love and relationships. He is frustrated by the cold and unforgiving wind that separates him from the one he loves and leaves him feeling trapped and hopeless. He describes the feeling of being stuck in a "daylight trap" with every door leading to hell. He even references John Denver songs, which are known for their sentimental and heart-wrenching lyrics, to emphasize just how difficult it can be to find love.
The chorus of the song, "Unlucky in love, unlucky in love," becomes a kind of mantra for the singer, as he acknowledges the fact that he has never been lucky in love. He describes the gifts he would give to someone just beginning a relationship, such as a free access card to a therapist and a lifejacket to help them keep afloat when things get rough. He acknowledges that love is not always easy, and that sometimes it can be a dark and confusing place where little boy hearts beat in "syncopated dismay."
Overall, the song Unlucky in Love is a bittersweet reflection on the difficulties of love and the toll it can take on those who are unlucky enough to struggle with it. The lyrics are full of vivid imagery and emotional resonance, making it a powerful and poignant piece of music.
