Clay Walker (born August 19, 1969) was born and raised on a farm in Beaumont, TX, the hometown of George Jones. Walker fell in love with country music at an early age, when his father gave him a guitar when he was only nine years old. After he graduated from high school, Walker pursued a musical career full-time, playing concerts across the South, the Midwest, and Canada. For over three years, he toured and went to school, taking courses about the music business. During this time, he acted as his own manager. Eventually, he became the house singer at the Neon Armadillo bar in Beaumont. While performing at the club, producer James Stroud heard Walker and offered to work with the singer. Stroud helped Walker secure a contract with Giant Records, and the pair began working on the vocalist's debut album.
"What's It to You" became a number one hit upon its release in August of 1993, with "Live Until I Die" following it into the pole position later that same year. Both singles were featured on his debut album, Clay Walker, which was released in the fall of 1993. "Where Do I Fit in the Picture," the third single from the album, became a number 11 hit in early 1994. "White Palace" was a flop, failing to crack the Top 40, but "Dreaming With My Eyes Open" became his third number one hit in the summer of 1994, helping make his debut record a platinum album. If I Could Make a Living was not quite as successful as his debut, yet it still yielded the number one title track. Hypnotize the Moon, Walker's third album, appeared in the fall of 1995, preceded by the number two single "Who Needs You Baby." He followed with Self Portrait in 1996 and Rumor Has It in 1997. A Greatest Hits collection appeared in 1998 and a new album, Live, Laugh, Love, was released in 1999. Say No More followed two years later.

Got a boss on me like a snake on a frog
There's got to be more than what I've got
On this big, ole piece of rock
I want a little umbrella and a patch of sand
Coconut drink and a reggae band
Just might be the place where I get off
Yeah, I want a day in the life of a summertime song
Sail away with a Malibu rum
Sail on, sail on away, yeah
Let the scorching sun and the salt in the sea
Burn the skin right off of me
Come on, everybody, and sing along
It's a summertime song
I might pierce my ear and bleach my hair
And get a tattoo on my derriere
Right now, I don't really care
What anybody else might think
I'm going to dance to every song I can
So I can show off my new island tan
While I wave my hand and raise my drink
'Cause I want a day in the life of a summertime song
Sail away with a Malibu rum
Sail on, sail on away, yeah
Let the scorching sun and the salt in the sea
Burn the skin right off of me
Come on, everybody, and sing along
It's a summertime song
Yeah, I want a day in the life of a summertime song
Sail away with a Malibu rum
Sail on, sail on away, yeah
Let the scorching sun and the salt in the sea
Burn the skin right off of me
Come on, everybody, and sing along
It's a summertime song
Clay Walker's "Summertime Song" is an anthem for anyone who feels trapped in their daily routine and yearns for a carefree break. It's a relatable ode to the joys of summer and vacation, and being able to escape the daily grind. The first verse sets the stage, recounting a dull week at work, with a demanding boss and a sense of frustration with the monotony of life. Then, with a desire for something more, the chorus kicks in with its infectious rhythm and catchy lyrics, urging the listener to forget their worries and indulge in a tropical paradise, complete with a little umbrella, reggae band, and coconut drink. The song creates an image of relaxing in the sun, feeling the salty breeze and letting go of cares, and finding joy in the moment. The second verse adds a touch of rebellion with the suggestion of getting a tattoo on the derriere, further emphasizing the idea of letting go of constraints and embracing the moment.
Overall, "Summertime Song" is an upbeat, energetic tune that captures the essence of carefree summer days, appealing to anyone who has ever felt bogged down with the stresses of life. It's an escapist fantasy that can transport the listener to a happy place, even if only for a few minutes, and encourage them to live in the moment and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
