I've been feeling anxious, ain't been feeling right
I've been staying up, yeah, staying up all night
I've been calling exes, trying to disconnect
I can't cut the wires running 'round my head, head

Need to look after myself, yeah, I need to take a breath
Need to look after my health, yeah, I need to disconnect
Yeah, I need to take a breath, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Yeah, I need to disconnect, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

I go all out night yeah, I go home alone
Sleeping in my bed, head beside my phone (phone)
Looking at a screen glowing in the dark (glowing in the dark)
I just wanna dream, but I can't seem to switch off

Need to look after myself, yeah, I need to take a breath
Need to look after my health, yeah, I need to disconnect

Yeah, I need to take a breath, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Yeah, I need to disconnect, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

Feel my body shutting down
I don't wanna hear a sound
Feel my battery running low
I don't wanna be alone

Yeah, I need to take a breath
Yeah, I need to disconnect

Feel my fuse about to blow
Babe, I need to hit the road
Don't know where I wanna go
I don't wanna be alone
Living through a telephone
Like a body covered in chrome
Feel my body shutting down
I don't wanna hear a sound

Yeah, I need to take a breath
Yeah, I need to disconnect, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ohh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Clean Bandit's "Disconnect" reveal the struggles of modern life and the need to take care of oneself. The song describes feelings of anxiety and restlessness, the result of staying connected all the time. The singer admits that they have been calling their exes, trying to disconnect, but they cannot seem to cut the wires that continue to run in their head. They stay up all night, staring at screens, trying to zone out, and dreaming of a place where they can just switch off.

In the chorus, the singer acknowledges that they need to take care of themselves and look after their health. They need to disconnect from the constant input to allow themselves to breathe and recharge. They "need to disconnect," and "take a breath," repeating these phrases throughout the song as if to convince themselves that this is what they really require.

The bridge of the song sees the singer admitting that they feel their body shutting down, and they want to be with someone, rather than being alone. They feel their battery running low and that their fuse is about to blow. They need to hit the road, but they do not know where they want to go. They conclude by saying that they do not want to be alone, living through a telephone, and covered in chrome.

Overall, "Disconnect" is a poignant commentary on the modern condition and a call to take care of oneself by disconnecting from technology and taking a moment to breathe.

Froot by Marina was a top 10 on the chart, Electra heart reached 31, and her least popular album the family jewels still beat new eyes charting at 138!!!! Electra heart, the family jewels, and Froot were all top 10s in the United Kingdom with Electra heart reaching the number one spot, New eyes reached 3 on the UK album chart, so your can stop making yourself look stupid now by calling Marina a flop because she makes clean Bandit look like a flop.

I don't give this song enough credit for gifting me a breathing guide during my panic attacks. Singing along demands big breathes and it saves me from crying every time.

Hope you're doing alright, have a nice day :)

The lines "need to look after myself / yeah, I need to take a breath" and "need to look after my health / yeah, I need to disconnect" hit me hard because to me those lyrics mean that sometimes you need to remove yourself from certain people and relationships (not just romantically) because they're damaging to not only your mental and emotional health but they're also damaging to your soul and who your true, authentic self is. And no matter how much it'll hurt you to let go, it'll hurt more if you hold on and sometimes you need to let go of certain toxic people in your life and cut the weeds they planted in your lungs in order to truly breathe freely again. <3
