Right from early days from the moment I was born
Ever since I can remember, I've been doing what I love - playing my guitar.

I would take my guitar in the early early mornin'
I love playing so much that I even wake up early in the morning to play.

I would sit in the long grass and strum my guitar while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

I could see the people from miles around comin'
People would come from miles around just to hear me play and sing.

To hear me sing my music and play-ay-ay
I was known for my singing and guitar playing and people loved it.

Well that's been my kinda life my kinda life
This is the life I love and have always wanted.

I couldn't be happier doing what I love.

Well we made it to the city just me and my guitar
I eventually made it to the big city with just my guitar and my dreams.

That was where I found a freaky little bar
I discovered a small, unusual bar in the city where I could play my music.

I sat there on the stage and play-ay-ayed
I performed on the small stage in the bar, playing and singing to my heart's content.

Well up came a guy who said it wasn't plastic
A man approached me and said he liked what I was doing and wanted me to further my career.

He wanted me to sing away my life or something drastic
This man was impressed with my talent and wanted me to pursue a career in music, even if it meant sacrificing everything else.

But all I want to do is play-ay-ay
However, all I really want to do is keep playing my guitar and singing to people who appreciate it.

Well fame and fortune I've let them pass me by
I've had opportunities for fame and wealth in the music industry, but I chose not to pursue them.

No one in the country could say I didn't try
I tried to make a name for myself in the music industry but ultimately chose not to follow a traditional path to success.

To turn the people and to play-ay-ay
I wanted to spread my music to more people and continue playing my guitar.

You can keep all the money and the places that go with it
I'm not motivated by money or material possessions, I just want to keep playing my music.

'Cause all I want is freedom and no cash could ever get it
For me, true freedom comes from being able to play my guitar as I please and not being tied down by the expectations of the music industry.

Well that's been my kinda life yeah and I wouldn't spend it anywhere
This is the life for me, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Other than sittin' down somewhere playin' away my days
I could sit anywhere and play my guitar all day long, and that would be enough for me.
