Cliff Richard Lyrics

I don't remember ever feeling this way.
Can it be true? Does anyone care?
Is it only make-believe or are You really there?
Is there a chance I've been missing the best?
Could it be life is more than a guess?
I'm afraid to let go, yet I long to see.
If You are real, be real to me.
Okay, supposing I were to come to You?
Not saying I will, just supposing I do?
Would I have to be, just another guy?
Two a penny's not for me, it just won't satisfy.
I'm just confused, by candles and prayers.
I just need to know, if You are there.
Show me the way, for I long to see.
If You are real, be real to me,
If You are real, be real to me.
I'm just confused, by candles and prayers.
I just need to know, if You are there.
Show me the way, for I long to see.
If You are real, be real to me,
If You are real, be real to me.
In this song, Cliff Richard expresses his doubt and uncertainty about the existence of God. He starts by questioning how to start his conversation with God, indicating his unfamiliarity with praying. He then expresses his confusion and asks if it could be a mere make-believe, indicating his skepticism. He also wonders if he might have missed out on a spiritual aspect of life.
Richard's fear of letting go of his skepticism while longing to understand the existence of God is palpable in the lyrics. He supposes approaching God but also stresses that he does not want to be just another person in the congregation that worships without understanding. He is confused by religious rituals such as candles and prayers and seeks direction to understand whether God is actually present.
Ultimately, Richard yearns for a real experience with God and asks that, if God exists, he show him the way. The final lines reaffirm this desire for a genuine connection to God.
Overall, Questions is a poignant expression of the struggle one may have in reconciling their skepticism with their yearning for a spiritual connection with a higher power.
