Playground In My Mind
Clint Holmes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When this old world gets me down and there's no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find I'm in a playground in my mind
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day

My name is Michael, I've got a nickel, I've got a nickel shiny and new
I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy, that's what I'm gonna do
In the wonders that I find in the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be, close your eyes and follow me
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we'll sing a song all day

My girl is Cindy, when we get married we're gonna have a baby or two
We're gonna let them visit their grandma, that's what we're gonna do

Living in a world that I left behind
Happy little children
In the playground in my mind
See the little children

See how they play in the playground in my mind
La la la

The song "Playground In My Mind" by Clint Holmes is a whimsical reflection on childhood memories and the joys of imagination. The lyrics describe a world in which the stresses of reality can be escaped by retreating into the playful landscape of one's own imagination. The "playground in my mind" is a place of endless possibility, where children laugh and sing all day, unencumbered by the hardships of the outside world. The singer of the song, Michael, dreams of indulging in all kinds of candy with his shiny new nickel, while his future wife Cindy anticipates the joys of motherhood and visiting her own mother with her future children.

The song presents a nostalgic view of childhood innocence, a return to a simpler time when happiness was found in the most basic pleasures. It is a vision of a world untouched by the strife and turmoil of adulthood, one in which children can be carefree and creative. I am!! It brings back very fond memories of a great, privileged childhood!! World travel, summers in the Hamptons, actually playing outside using our imaginations.

My older brother passed away on 08-07-2021. His heart just stopped. My brother just close his eyes and went to be with The Lord. He was a special needs individual but was able to experience having a job, money, savings and purchasing, a girlfriend or 2, and the neverending love from his mother and father and his 8 siblings. Ever since the first time I heard this song as a child it always reminded me of him. He lived 68 years and his name was Michael. I can see him enjoying his new life with The Lord with a fresh new body and mind.

@@cynthiabustamante2884 Thank you so much. People would tell us that all the time when they would see his large family throwing him birthday parties at restaurants. He had 7 brothers and 2 sisters and tons of nephews and nieces. He was part of an old school Texas style Hispanic familia lol. Although I was the youngest, he was my mom's baby. He passed away shortly after my mother did.
